Pretty straightforward interview although a few things reinforce what we already know (i.e., offensively we are struggling, the point needs to be improved).

This might just be me getting sappy, but I hope Woj develops the passion for Marquette that you can tell he has for Duke.  For example, when he talks about being with Duke for life, not just four years- i hope he eventually starts thinking of MU that way.  I know we probably all feel this way but I don't want this to be a stepping stone to duke HC, i want him to be the Coach K of MU, creating his own legacy here.

"....we're only going to add players who we think can make us better.  It's not a matter just adding bodies.  I don't think that's the right way to go about building a program.  You build a program by getting people who can contribute to the program, to the culture and to the standards of the new program.  So we're not just going to grab bodies to have bodies."

Well, that philosophy deviates from what many on Scoop would have him do.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

This is actually some work by Hunt that wasn't a mail in job.

Unfortunately, he'll probably have to miss out on the Duke job when Coach K retires for that to happen.

Also requires access to the program and was concurrently posted to MU's Facebook -- almost like he has access again.

Strange hearing an MU coach answer questions directly and succinctly and not wandering a mile off topic where you had to go back and re-read what the original question was.

The realist in me agrees.  The part of me that has had more than a couple whiskys wants to be an idealist.

MU82

There was nothing earthshaking in here, but it was good to hear our coach intelligently answer each question the way it needed to be answered. He sounded like a very positive, very demanding and very accountable coach.

Worrying already about whether he will leave one day is silly, pointless and out of our control. I know it's a natural thing to do, given what we've gone through. But let's let him win and we'll see what happens. Did Dukiet and Deane view Marquette as a stepping-stone job? We never got a chance to find out because we viewed them as stepping-stone coaches when they didn't win enough.

I'm happy to have Wojo and excited to see what the next several years will bring.

I liked Buzz, bought in to it, it's a business but this response made me laugh...

I'd like for someone to ask him how familiar he is with our history.  Obviously he knows wade from team USA and knows we won a national championship.  But I'm just curious seeing as he's coming from Duke what his answer would be because that would really show us how our program is perceived by the top dogs
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

Warrior Code

I have to admit, I'm buying what he's selling.  The line that "we're at Marquette, one of the best universities and programs in the United States" was particularly good.

He is very focused and his eye is on the prize. He is in the right place at the right time. We are going to have an exciting and fun team next year.  The big key will be if he can get Mr. Carlino to behave properly on the court and play within a team concept. If he can do that  Deonte Mayo and STjr are going to have big years.

Did he say if one of his very first memories was of Al winning it all in his last game at MU?

Is he thinking of taking the Riata up there in Thiensville off of Bert's hands for full asking?

Well, he was born in August 1976. So if he remembers Marquette beating North Carolina in the '77 title game, that would be pretty amazing!

I will be very curious to see him in post game interviews, particularly after the first bad loss, whenever that might be.

Hey, I agree with you 82! Maybe Wojo will be successful and be at MU 20 years--maybe not. When K retires, it is likely that Wojo will try for the job--many will. But heck, there are about 6 to 8 other former Dukies coaching now who you could say the same thing about. Don't want to consider MU as a stepping stone job, but to Duke, it likely is. Maybe some day MU can become one of the bluebloods, sure hope so.

Wait ... Wojo is going to lose games? I knew we should have hired someone else!

After reading, I do not expect for Wojo to add anyone before the season.  We will undoubtedly be the smallest team in Division 1 basktetball.  Even smaller than Villanova.
