Some interesting thoughts from them on McNeal, James...their continued bashing of Crean....but overall some good stuff.

I like the guy who said James plays the worst defense he has ever seen.  Really?  The worst ever?

Interesting comment...

duke played 7 players ranked higher than marquettes highest rank recruit dom james. every duke player was ranked in the top 75. marquette only had 3 ranked players: dom james, mcneil and mathews.

Goes to show those ranking are worth the piece of paper they are typed on.  I don't condone recruiting kids below 200, but at the same time too many fans fall in love with their player rankings.  I mean, what really discerns guy #57 vs #71...they're practically the same when you think about it.  Even guy #150 vs guy #91...not much difference.  It's how well they are coached and execute.

The guys at the very top of the ratings, top 15 guys...those I treat differently because those are truly a level ahead of everyone else.  After that it becomes a mish mash of many very good players.

Okay, I know these are out of context, but they're my favorite quotes from the somewhat hilarious minds from that two-named college town beyond the cornfields.

The "Don't Flatter Yourself" quote
- "i like watching that team play... hard-nosed defense... very illini-esque."

The Standard Dickie V Stupidity slams
- "vitale = unbiased media ...'duke has got to hit a three here' he says with desperation in his voice."
- "this just in vitale says lebron james is good"

From the 'What the !@$#?' department
- "bigger outrageous body part: scheyer's neck or crean's head?"

And of course...the MU Love *awwwwww*
- "duke looked overmatched and slow against marquette tonight, even though they had a substantial size advantage over marquette"
- (picture of Crean with his hand up) "raise your hand if you did something that the illini haven't done since 12/2/1995. lam!"

GO MU!

I think we had one here at MU that didn't even make the top #100, maybe even #200.

His name was Dwyane.

Hear, hear.

And I would go further to say that I'm fine with recruiting some kids below 200 (or whatever number you may choose). There are things that the rankings just can't measure properly -- heart, intensity and desire. A good recruiter can capture the diamonds in the rough, the guys who will contribute for four years and will develop talents that may be missed by those who rank the players.

I agree.  These other schools can talk about his tan, his hair, his caveman looks, whatever....keep talking.  He keeps winning, he keeps putting players in the NBA and competing at the highest levels then they can talk all they want.  Great publicity.

Wisconsin has about 8 threads dedicated to us, zero on Illinois, none on MSU, none on Iowa, etc.  UNC talking about us.  Kentucky fans talking about us.

I have no problem whatsoever   ;D

This one on the UNC boards is classic....  http://mb23.scout.com/finsidecarolinafrm6.showMessage?topicID=116510.topic

Harrison

#2 rated player in Illinois behind Darius Miles who went straight to the league by Bullseye and #48 by Foxsports.  Please with the hyperbole.  But yes the hype was low he was somewhat mixed up as opposed to being the standout on a AAU team he was one of about 4-5 major major D1 recruits on that team. Also his exposure over the summer was not huge ad was written off by many that did not feel he would qualify...But in no way did anyone who saw him see him as anything but a big time recruit.
