#VCU AD Ed McLaughlin says there are no changes to Shaka Smart's contract at Smart's request. Smart focused on enhancements 4 players/assts.

brandx

Well, I wanna hear from our "experts" here before I believe anything the VCU AD has to say.

They had the inside info on Shake being a d-bag and using MU for his own selfish benefit.

GoldenWarrior11

Hope Shaka enjoys the A-10.  Because an invite from the Big East, or any of the other conferences sure aren't coming anytime soon.

Not necessarily, but they will not add any school that is looking to either expand their football program or create one.  VCU, being a public university, certainly has the capabilities and potential to consider it.  After all the mess between the basketball and football schools in the Old Big East, you can bet that the Catholic schools will not go on that ride again.

Not sure I want to wade into this pool, but it is off season.  I am firmly on board with Wojo and look forward to great things, just thought this was interesting.

Talked to a friend this weekend.  He has connections and I've received good info in the past.

He told me that Shaka wanted to come but that Mrs. Shaka did not want to leave proximity to DC.

Discuss among yourselves.  Or not.

This explanation seems quite plausible to me, it certainly fits how events unfolded.  Enhancements for players/assts are the kinds of things that he passed on when he didn't take the Marquette job.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Agree that a wife's opinion matters a lot.

Thought ... Why didn't he discuss it with her before he started with the process?

I heard something very similar to this as well.

MuMark

That is exactly what happened from what I have heard

Maybe he started out investigating it to see if was even something he would want before bringing it up with her.  It looks like UVa., Maryland and Georgetown would have the inside track at eventually getting Shaka.

I'm not sure if the wife objected because she is his wife...or because she is an attorney and his de facto agent.

So Shaka said Done Deal, but Mrs. Smart said no deal.  Now it comes together....   ;)

I used to like Mrs. Smart

The above statement is true.

It is not why Shaka did not take the job.

I'll admit to having trouble jibing what you said with the "Shaka wanted to come" part of the statement that you are agreeing with.

It's kinda true.

Shaka said yes, but when she tried to alter the offer after it was initially accepted by Shaka, MU backed out.

I give Cords credit.

How about a weeeee bit more.  Any inkling on how she altered the offer?

Mike Lovell's comments basically spell out that Shaka teased us.

"I had communications with Shaka," incoming Marquette President Mike Lovell said Tuesday. "I can tell you he seems to be a pretty good guy. He's going to stay at VCU for a while and I'm not sure what he's ultimately looking for, but I think he's got something very selective in his mind."

I think the bolded / underlined parts tell the story.
The Teal Train has left the station and Lens is day drinking in the bar car.    ---- Dr. Blackheart

History is so valuable if you have the humility to learn from it.    ---- Shaka Smart
