...is the fact that there was no mention -- unless I really missed it -- of God by Wojo in the presser.  I often felt that Buzz leveraged the God-thing way too much as a way of brightening up and extending his own aura of penitence and wisdom.  In short, it grew tiresome and insincere after a while. I also admit that I largely didn't care what Buzz did just as long as he was helping MU win games. Would I have called out Buzz's invocation of God during the elite 8 last year?  Probably not.  Fact remains that Wojo's presser was short, sweet, and -- by all indications -- sincere.  I also don't get the impression that Wojo's enamored by the sound of his own voice...unlike Buzz.

Couldn't agree more. Usually those who speak of God the most, follow Him the least.

Or tweet about him?    ;D       I hate to engage in ethnic or religious generalities, but it has been my experience that those raised in an evangelical tradition and or community drop 'God' into their casual conversations more frequently than do cradle Catholics.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

I was just glad to not hear "...and that's how it is in life" after the end of every dialogue.  Glad he expressed opinions on coaching, rather than acting as a foremost authority on all the facts of life.

Personality Differences

Wojo and Buzz in the same Bar -

Wojo is the owner
Buzz is the pool shark running the back room

Any of our other former coaches start quoting God a lot lately?

Where's Deane? Is he mopping the bathroom while nibbling on a urinal cake?

Let's Go Warriors

Deane is the guy in line outside that the bouncer wont let in because they are full.  Yet at the same time the bouncer lets in Tom Crean and Kevin Oniel.
Warrior As defined by Webster's:
A person who fights in battles and is known for having courage and skill

Let me guess, Dukiet is the piano player?

MUfan12

It wouldn't have bothered me a bit if he thanked God at the presser. But one thing I did notice, and that I really liked, is he seems like an all-business guy. I get the impression that he's about teaching and winning, and the "life lessons" are learned through basketball. Not through quotes, verse, parables, or prayer sessions.

Maybe this is just new hire optimism speaking, but I get the sense that the returning players will really like the change in tone.

No, Deane's the regular who doesn't appear to work, has "his" bar stool, and repeats the same, tired story through slurred speech and numerous variations. The only time he ever gets off "his" stool is to make desperate, pathetic passes at attractive women 25 years his junior. After getting rebuffed yet again he retreats to "his" stool muttering a stream of obscenities about women in general and her in particular.

And I assume Al is tending bar?

And I assume Al is tending bar?

That would seem appropriate.  His personality fits that to a tee.  Let's Recap:

Al - Bartender (allowed to drink behind the bar)
Wojo - Bar Manager/Owner
Buzz - Pool Shark running scams in the Back Room Pool Hall
Deane - Drunkard who keeps Al company during late morning hours into the late afternoon

We need to find roles for the following:
Bob Dukiet - suggested role is piano player so far
Tex Winter - I would say.... bookkeeper.
Rick Majerus -
Kevin O'neill -
Hank Raymonds -
Tom Crean -  possibility of owning a tanning salon/spa next door to the bar

Let me know your thoughts on what role these coaches play in the MU bar.

Rick Majerus the cook?

source?

Didn't Al's dad own a bar, where he worked for years? I believe his job was dishwasher. Bartender probably fits better.

No, Crean's the too smarmy salesman who is always pushing for investment in his latest get-rich-quick scheme. He visits the bar to and from the tanning salon, not because he has friends there or even likes to drink, but because he knows people are more likely to say yes after a few drinks.

Is he the chick in the green T-shirt walking around trying to sell discounted cigarette cartons? That chick can get annoying fast.

First, let me just say....best thread ever. We'd do this at Marquette all the time. Who would fill out what movie/life role. So...

Second....ladies the gentlemen....Mike Deane minus the glasses.

Does that mean that Deane has black marks on the shoulder area of his white, oxford shirt?
