Anyone catch College Gameday last night?
They had a piece on Memphis and how John Calipari was implementing a new "Euro" style of offense where the floor was kept very spread and Memphis would utilize their smaller, quicker guards and forwards to attack defenses.  Basically, John feels that the NBA game is gaining more of an influence from Europe and that the college game will evolve to this type of play also.  He sees fewer "traditional" post players and more of the combo PF/SF who can run, shoot, and create havoc on the defensive end.  It was interesting and of course I thought of our situation and hope that maybe we can move to a similar style as we seem able to recruit wings and guards but very few post players. (Which is the scenario for Memphis but they do recruit more 5 star guards than us, ie Derrick Rose who is absolutely sick)

That all being said, shortly after that Jay Bilas and Digger reiterated that guards will get you to the sweet 16 but you still need a post presence to make it to the Elite 8 and beyond.

It was a good show, they had some tidbits on Marquette but besides the diminishing role of the traditional post players I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the other top 25 team's non-conference schedule.  There must have been maybe 3 teams with a tougher non-conference schedule than us.  Gonzaga and Memphis had tough schedules but when you play in their respective conferences you have to improve your SOS somehow.   Just thought it was interesting to see that we are on par with other top 25 teams with regards to Non-conference SOS.  I know it may make your game ticket seem less valuable but that's just the way Top 25 teams work...

I don't think we are maybe moving to that style.  We are heading full steam ahead towards that style of play with the players TC has recruited.
