MU Fan in Connecticut

I just came from my orthopedist appointment.  He saw the Marquette logo on my watch.  The Dr said one of his good colleague's relatives went to the Hotchkiss School and plays for Marquette.  (I missed the connection.) I said Derrick Wilson?  Yes! My doctor said he was one of the best football players he ever saw play but that kid loves basketball.  He repeated that "he should have played football.

And please no bashing.  Way to coincidental to not post.

Probably late to the party on this, but I didn't know Derrick played football. Was he recruited?

Derrick Wilson should transfer to WVU.  Huggins would find valuable playing time for him as an "enforcer" on defense.

He's built like a tank.  Never knew, but I'm not surprised he was talented.  Derrick is really good at running around and holding the ball.

Derrick Wilson seems like a great kid, and I think Brent did him an injustice this past season.

Interestingly, I have often wondered if he might be interested in trying out with a NFL team after graduating. In a way it might be smart way to play professional football. Four years of conditioning and working on various moves that might be put to good use in the NFL.

Anyway, I hope he does more than well in whatever direction he goes.

Pretty sure he was recruited by ND & Stanford as well as some other good programs as a safety or corner. Could be wrong on position or school list, but I also think he would have been good on the gridiron. Definitely has good defensive positioning instincts and he wouldn't have to play offense at all in football.

Derrick was NEPSAC Player of the Year (MVP) as a sophmore in High School as a RB and MLB. To put that into perspective, he played in the same league as 3 current NFL players who were juniors and seniors. He never pursued it but big time programs were sending letters early.

Brings to mind Jae Crowder.  There were some NFL teams looking at him to play the TE position.  I always wished Crowder would have pursued the NFL.  For all the times I've heard Badger fans say:  How'd your football team do this year..... I would have had the perfect response.  We don't need football.  Our basketball team sends players to the NBA and NFL.

Less people then I thought knew that he was a football player. A damn good one at that too.

IIRC, Notre Dame and Stanford expressed at least some interest in him to play football.

Let the Packers try him out in 2 years!

Funny that I had a similar conversation last week.  I met with a new hire at my company who's daughter went to Hotchkiss and knew D. Wilson.  He said the guy was an off the charts football talent and for sure had a shot at the NFL.  Also said he was as humble and classy as he appears.

A bit overboard...

As a running back, he lacked burst and separation speed. Teams were interested in him only if he was interested in moving to safety. He said he didn't like the idea of playing defense. The nfl? Long ways away

Sweet irony!
