From what I've read is 1.7 or 1.8 million.  MU can no doubt go well beyond that annually with the usual incentives.  Like many, I don't think we'll get him, but the kind of money MU has to offer should no doubt get his attention and get him to consider MU seriously, right?   Not to mention the obvious returning to WI and being closer to his dad.

Full court press should be on to persuade him to take MU.  I don't care if he turned them down last time, that was 6 years ago.

Pakuni

According to USA Today he made a minimum $2.2 million this year thanks to incentives and bonuses.

HutchwasClutch

Sounds right and we can offer Bennett way more.

I would love for Bennett to be the mystery Sweet 16 coach. Please, please, please.....!!!

HutchwasClutch

Maybe he can teach Burton how to defend.  Burton's a future lottery pick if he learns that skill.

Again, he didn't turn us down. We never offered.

And pass. I don't want Bo Ryan's anointed successor as my coach. He will bolt for Madison the second Bo keels over

Maybe he is Bo's heir at UW, but did you want Shaka?  The same thing could be and was said about his candidacy.

All that would happen is Bennett interest in MU would get him more money at Virginia. The MU job to big time coaches is good for getting raises and nothing else.

Shaka is in no way connected to the Wisconsin job other than being from Madison.

Shaka is waiting for Billy Donavan to move on.

Tony Bennett is THE successor. There is no other candidate.

I don't buy for a minute that a quality, well-established coach can't be persuaded from their current job to take all that MU offers in terms of salary, investment and commitment from the school, fan support, tradition, recent success, etc etc.   If that's going to be our attitude, let's just go to the Horizon League now.

I agree that Smart is not connected to UW Madison. But waiting for Donovan to leave could be measured in decades.

And those who see Bennett waiting for Ryan to retire do not understand Dick Bennett.

Exactly - unless the NBA comes calling Donovan, he's going nowhere until he's an old man.

Same thing could probably be said about Bo- his energy seems strong as ever.  How long does Bennett want to live in the ACC shadows of UNC, Duke, 'Cuse, Louisville, etc.  It's going to be really difficult to sustain the level of success he reached this year at UVA.  They had many down years before he took over.  That's not a plum ACC job by any stretch.

Bennett is seeing big $ this season thanks to achievement of certain incentives.

Money isn't going to be a significant factor to cause him or most coaches to leave their current gig.

PS - Will be interesting to see Buzz's compensation at VT when it's decided upon. Probably a couple of months away before a contract gets done between him and school.

The portal is NOT closed.

Texas Western

There is zero chance he will leave UVA. Take a trip to Charlottesville and see the UVA campus and you will understand why. This is his final job unless a top tier NBA job came up.

After recently visiting Charlottesville I have to agree.

Depends.  Where is his wife from?  Don't forget the influence of the wife and the desire to maybe get closer to grand parents.  I have lived away from family most of my life and I am finding that I want to be closer.

The last I looked, MU spent 5th most last year on Men's basketball. Isn't that enough to attract a ggod guy? If not, then we have major issues.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

I believe his wife is from Louisiana.

You think Strong would care about his ROI...you look at the list of top-spending programs, and when you consider performance and even more so expectations, one of these things is not like the others.
