I posted about this last Friday, what has the MU leadership done in the recent past that would lead us to believe this coaching hire would be successful?

It seems MU is consistently bungling things from a PR standpoint. And make no mistake, this Shaka failure will be added to the list of MU public relations disasters. Not because we swung and missed, but because we agreed to push up the naming of the university president for him.  In hindsight, it looks incredibly foolish to do that for a coaching candidate.

ChicosBailBonds

It can still be successful.  Tower is exactly right.  Don't you wish in a way that you didn't know MU went after Smart?  I'm glad we did, wish I didn't know....more importantly, wish the news, et al said it was a done deal.

bean

I agree with Chicos 100%.  I wish all I knew was that Smart was on the list but we went with someone else.

Milwarriorkee

I have no problem that we went after him and failed. Like Keefe has been saying, "aim high."

I just wish we would not have taken the extraordinary step of convening a special BOT meeting and rushing the announcement if the pres without knowing that SS would then accept. Have him sign a conditional acceptance before you do that. I just think it looks really bad that MU publicly went to such great lengths to appease a coach that turned us down.

Moving up the announcement made some at MU squirm even if it would have worked. To do that and still miss is a disaster.

I agree it could still be a success. I just don't have a lot of confidence in the leadership that it will be. Hope I am wrong.

What were we supposed to go...not do it and lose our dream candidate because of that? Can you imagine how ape this board would have gone? stop with the 20/20 hindsight

Milwarriorkee

We should not have done it unless we had a guarantee SS was coming if we did. This board going ape sh!t is a better alternative than what has happened.

thisists

how does anyone really know that we moved the prez announcement up for shaka smart?

Milwarriorkee

I am going off of what bullseye bros is saying and common sense. But it is possible that it was a coincidence and unfounded rumor. Hell, all day I thought we had heavy hitters in SS's living room, and it sounds like that never happened.
