Howland is a proven coach... three consecutive final fours is pretty damn hard to do.  Howland is a homerun hire.  Shaka is also a homerun hire but he's more of an unknown commodity.  He could be really great or he could tank.  Take away his one miracle final four run and is he even in the same conversation as Howland?

That's what I'm worried about, and why I think Marquette would go for Howland. I think Smart could be in the running, but I have concerns such as will Havoc work against the big programs Marquette will play against? We can't forget that even though VCU has had some decent success lately, they still play mid major teams all year long.

Yeah, I know he couldn't recruit 2 & 3-star guys. Too many 4 & 5 star guys clogging up the roster.

I too would choose shaka over howland but and its a big BUTT, I think shaka wanted to come to MU but the old lady put her foot down and said NO! MU is much closer in terms of national perception to VCU than it is to UCLA.
