In all honesty, I do think Howland is a better hire, with more testing at a high level program. But  there's a big part of me that really wants it to be Shaka so I can just see all the arrogant fools from VCU freak out over it. Also, watching the Badger game with Howland coaching, ohhhhhhhhhhh god. Final score 30-23

chapman

Howland will run more.  He promised.  I want to slurp.

I can't wait to hear our friend fromrichmond's take on this. Thrilling!

So I should update my prediction to 34-26?

After reading fromrichmond's statement... yeah. I'm in.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Howland is a proven coach... three consecutive final fours is pretty damn hard to do.  Howland is a homerun hire.  Shaka is also a homerun hire but he's more of an unknown commodity.  He could be really great or he could tank.  Take away his one miracle final four run and is he even in the same conversation as Howland?

That's what I'm worried about, and why I think Marquette would go for Howland. I think Smart could be in the running, but I have concerns such as will Havoc work against the big programs Marquette will play against? We can't forget that even though VCU has had some decent success lately, they still play mid major teams all year long.

chapman

Forget slurp, I'd chug.  The "Sweet 16, Sweet 16, Elite Eight" line to prove our old coach could do no wrong?  Bah.  Final Four, Final Four, Final Four.

If it is Howland, I fear we will not be getting the caliber of recruits that we have been. There is no doubt in my mind that he is a better X's and O's coach than Buzz...just see him struggling to get recruits with his offensive system.

A10 was a solid conference this year.

I will say that I think some of your concerns...Howland v. Shaka...are valid.

Yeah, I know he couldn't recruit 2 & 3-star guys. Too many 4 & 5 star guys clogging up the roster.

I think Shabazz and Westbrook would disagree with you.

It's much easier to recruit these guys to UCLA than to Marquette. Give me a break.

I too would choose shaka over howland but and its a big BUTT, I think shaka wanted to come to MU but the old lady put her foot down and said NO! So for all you VCU fans you see your beloved coach just doesn't have the huevos to go to the next step up.  MU needs a real man to coach the team. Maybe Howland is the guy?

MU is much closer in terms of national perception to VCU than it is to UCLA.
If its SS we won't lose any playas.
