The first week of ESPN's Power 16 Rankings came out today.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/powerranking?season=2008&week=1

#1 North Carolina
You can't go wrong with the Heels, Memphis or UCLA. Other than Deon Thompson replacing Brandon Wright, what you see is what you saw last season, when UNC should have been in Atlanta.

#5 Louisville
One half of a two-headed Big East monster, the youthful Cards showed glimpses down the stretch last season. Now the target will be on Edgar Sosa and Co. How will they react?

#6 Georgetown
Lose Jeff Green and have repeat Final Four expectations? With Roy Hibbert back, DaJuan Summers ready and a much deeper and more experienced guard corps, that's an affirmative.

#12 Marquette
The guards are back for another run. Dominic James gets the pub but Jerel McNeal makes things hum. Can the frontcourt provide some needed assistance?

Do you think that we're alone with our problems?

Duke: Kyle Singler's arrival should help ease some of the nightly scoring load, but this is still a smaaaaaaall Devils team that isn't markedly different from last season's first-round fizzlers.

Oregon: A small-ball team in a big Pac-10 world

MSU: They just need more from their frontcourt to make this rating stick

Kentucky: Relative lack of size is an issue

Ready2Fly

Maybe instead of "All for one, one for all" the team's slogan should be "Size doesn't matter."  Just throwin' it out there.

I love looking how each person ranked the teams.  To my suprise Joe Lunardi has us ranked #8, and I respect his college basketball opinion over every ACC lover, I mean ESPN college basketball anaylst, on that site

There's a difference??  ;)

maybe there is another reason why Shumpert went to Georgia Tech, he wanted to be an ESPN college basketball anaylst after college.

I try to not disrecpect players for their decisions, but if you ask me Shumpert is a tosser for going to GT for one reason- if he doesnt have a breakout yr and jump straight to the association, he will be stuck on the worst team of the 3 choices he had. Also, he took the copout way of getting his PT, if he had the cojones he woulda done it here or at UNC and then jumped to the association.

Thats all im gonna say about him

tomcrean4pres

while i agree that if he didnt go to the NBA after his frosh year he is going to be stuck on the worst of the 3 teams i think he will be just fine either way and we shouldnt be picking on him for his decision it is what it is now lets just leave him alone.

And re guarding the Power 16 i have realized that everyone is leaving out Wes when they talk about MU and i think he is going to be huge for this team this year i really think he is going to be amazing for us the next couple of years and i think this is his "breakout year"
