But Chew recruited them all its his contacts in Chicago.  Even if Buzz was the head of the program Chew was the recruiter so you never know if some of those recruits would stay.  Lots of times the proven winner doesn't work out

I'm sorry, but the air here in TelAviv is getting to me.

There is definitely one, proven, experienced winner out there. Seems interested I the gig. Meanwhile we go after the younger more sexy guy. That's all good...but if you eff it up and get neither then. Well, call me pessimistic considering all of the major missteps the MU athletic dept clown car has done over the years.

Michigan HAD Les Miles locked up. It was done. Then LSU made a late push and Michigans AD would not take calls from Miles in his frantic bid to confirm UM was giving him the job. The AD was on his yacht not taking calls. Result? Michigan lost Miles and made a panic move to hire RichRod. That turned out...poorly.

Point is this - you would THINK at this point, MU had its crap together when it comes to finding a replacement. If MU knew or had an inkling this was gonna happen, back channels would've been done already.

Now, we risk alienating Howland and once again, settling, while we all cross our fingers and hope for the best. Sorry, but I'm sick of this stuff.

Hope I'm wrong. But this botched pressed isn't filling me with optimism.

I say we offer Shaka.  If he even says one "but" we pull out and walk away.  This is way too important to bungle.

Hasn't Shaka been known to toy with offers like this?  UCLA, Illinois, Minnesota, like us, were all "this close."  

If we walk away without either him or Howland, Smart will go down in history as the greatest bargainer ever.  EVER.

Yep, the biggest downside to all of this is that our OWN fans and community have worked up to such a fever pitch that if Shaka is all smoke and mirrors, there is literally no way this doesn't look like a failure. Whatever route they end up going will leave (if not Shaka/Howland) will leave a community of disappointed MUBB supporters that got their hopes up and have national pundits laughing at us.

Negotiate them all the time.  Usually the ones like this, you get the main terms down, but you don't paper it for months down the road.  You might have a memo of understanding or some other document to get things "done enough" while all the details get hammered out down the road.  When we get deals done at the last minute when a channel comes down, or something similar, it often results in something of that nature.
