Be thorough in their search but if it does become Howland then that is flattering for us too based on this video as he said he wants a high-level program that will compete at the highest level and he won't settle.  Also indicates he is still very hungry to coach which is most important to me for a coach with a lot of past success but in his 50's.  Being an older coach is not a flaw if they still have the fire in the belly and surround themselves with a great staff.

Overall he comes across as a CEO type who is very smart and measured and knows how to build programs to win which he has done everywhere he's been.

Certainly looks like has a passion to get back into coaching ASAP. And this interview took place prior to the start of this season.

This interview actually has four parts. In part two, he talks about how the biggest improvement in a college players career is between freshman and sophomore year. Nothing earth-shattering, but I would really love to see the impact a coach like Howland would have on the career development of Deonte, JaJuan, Duane, John. (As well as Steve Taylor).

On an unrelated note, isn't Deonte's game a lot like Shabazz Muhammad? Obviously, Muhammad was a top national recruit, but their style of play, and measurables are pretty similar if anyone is looking for an NBA comparison.

Let's just hope Deonte isn't a head case like Shabazz.  Ugh, talk about a head case out here.

I like how he's worked with Stockton at Gonzaga.  Count me in for wanting Howland.  If anything we've definitely upgraded at coach.

Sold. The guy is a proven winner with a solid pedigree. The type of basketball he plays is a bit slower than I like, but if he wins, he wins.

Most importantly, I think it is good for Marquette's national image. Marquette is the premier job open right now and Howland is arguably the premier coaching free agent. Put the two together and you have a win - win.

I think we should go for one of: Howland, Shaka or Marshall. If the latter two are not interested, that leaves Howland.

I only saw a couple UCLA games late in the year and I'd take walk-ons before Shabazz. It looked like he was on the playground. No interest at all in playing WITH the other guys on the team. If Howland has culpability in this, it is that he couldn't see the guy for what he was.

Sure would be nice to hire an accomplished adult.  Look, if Tom Izzo inquired do you think we'd balk?  If Mr. Howland has indicated to Fr. Wild that he'd like the job, I'd schedule the press conference on Monday.  He could have his pick of any high D1 open job in the country.  And reportedly he wants ours.  Done.

Shabazz was a freshman.

And he's definitely turned himself around these days.

Surprised more people aren't at least curious as to the stories of things being somewhat out of control at UCLA before his departure. It has been a while since I read the SI piece about it, but it wasn't flattering as I recall. If Buzz's philosophy of running the program was a problem for the administration, I would think this would be cause for some real looking into, at a minimum. Definitely a track record of success, but I can understand MU wanting to take a little time to get the full picture. If Buzz was truly nudged out, some of this may already have been done.

Come on guys, I have 11 years on this guy. In my book he is not old, he is experienced.
