Lets get serious people.

Marquette benefits nominally from hosting tourney games.   In fact I believe it most likely cost many man hours that could be more of a benefit to our own department.

Lets look at the negatives of hosting the tourney

1. You give your chief rival a chance to get a homegame on your own floor
2. New standardized floor leaves no room for advertising your school (They mention  Milwaukee as a host during the telecast but not once mentioned Marquette)
3.The same city that wont allow us to Mall of Wisconsin avenue benefits greatly from our generosity.
4. Rodents invade your arena and use your locker room

Positives
ummmmmmmmmmm????

Because it is good for the city.  Though Marquette is the official host, they work with arena and the city to get the bid.  Good for Milwaukee.  The chances of Wisconsin playing there are remote.

At the end of the day, Wisconsin has a good program, they keep winning with traditional players...smart, heady, good shooters, fundamentally sound.  If that pays dividends for them and they get a chance to play every 4 years in Milwaukee, then that's the way it goes.

We don't decide.  That is the most simple answer you will get.

What do you mean we dont decide?
Couldnt UWM host it instead?

This is just plain wrong.  I had a chance to get tickets back in December.  I specifically didn't get tickets because I didn't want to suffer through what happened tonight at the BC.  I knew in December the Badgers would be playing there and wanted no part of it.  The hand that Oregon got dealt tonight was an absolute joke.  If that game is played in any other state in the country the Ducks win.  The NCAA needs to do away with putting teams in their home state.  That game was a mockery of the NCAA tournament.

?????

We have to put a bid in to host.  I was part of that process for two tournaments.  The NCAA decides who will ultimately get the bids, but you don't get one unless you submit a bid which is a very detailed plan showing you have the capability to host (hotel rooms, media space, arena, etc, etc)

Money. How do you think that new scoreboard got there.

Totally agree.  MU will never play in Wisconsin so why should UW?  Obviously, this applies to all schools.

How is this wrong?  The way the pod system works, you have to play to a certain seed to get that location.  There were no guarantees.  Don't get me wrong, there was the chance but Wisconsin earned it.  They're a 2 seed.  All they do is win and win and win.   Oregon was a 7 seed, they started the pod system a number of years ago.  Oregon had their chances, at the end of the game they couldn't squeeze a rebound when it was tied.  They were up 12 at halftime.  The Ducks have no one to blame but themselves.

BS.  Oregon was kicking the crap out of them in the first half.  Bo got his Technical, fans worked up into a frenzy, refs impacted, team pumped=Badger come back.

Absolutely no reason to ever have that type of home court advantage in a tournament that is supposed to be on a neutral court.  If they would have played at the Kohl center it would have been no different.  An absolute disgrace.

They did "earn it," the point is it shouldn't be something that can be "earned."

At least that is good to hear.  I thought we got nothing for it, but if we get something decent than I am totally okay with it.

It just sucks that Marquette will never have a chance to play in Wisconsin because Madison botched their chance a few years back when they hosted the regional.

What are the chances that GB could become a host?
They host huge crowds every weekend, the city has a fun vibe, and im sure has enough hotel rooms right?

Well, it sounds like sour grapes.  This has been going on for a long time.  Oregon was up 75-74 and they gave Wisconsin 4 chances at a basket, and the Badgers obliged.  Get a rebound.

The flip side of this is the way the sites are setup each year, you are always going to have some schools closer to home than others.  Someone above mentioned not allowing a school in the same state...ok, what if DePaul got sent to Milwaukee?  Same distance roughly as Madison is to Milwaukee...that would be ok, but not Madison in Milwaukee?   University of Cincinnati playing in Kentucky, or vice versa?  There is always going to people complaining about this stuff.

I get a lot more grumpy about MU being a higher seed and having to play Utah State in Boise...that to me is the bigger joke.  Wisconsin, a 2 seed playing 80 miles from campus...eh.  If Chicago hosted and Madison played in Chicago, does anyone not think it would be a massive home court advantage?  Of course it would.

I try not to blame losses or wins on reffing, home court nonsense, etc.  I'm sure there are examples of sour grapes by me.

A home court advantage is non-sense?  I am fairly positive in the history of all sports, teams have a far better winning percentage at home than they do on the road or neutral sites....

I think MU hosting second/third rounds is the absolute least of MU's problems right now.

Who cares.

Yo, yo, UW earned the right to play in Milwaukee.

I was at game, I should have sold tickets (if Oregon had won I would be saying the opposite ;) )  GD Bucky fans are the most self-serving, entitled, ...  And most didn't even go to UW.  But good for Milwaukee to host, good for UW (can't do anything about that).  But it freaking turned my stomach to see/hear all the UW crap at the BC like it was their home court and the obnoxious fans to boot.  It was red everywhere you turned.  Kudos to the brave MU souls that were wearing the blue and gold and representing the mother ship.

p.s. it was Oregon's game to lose and they did just that

I was referncing MU games where when we lose, lots of fans here like to blame the refs, etc.

Wasn't talking about the NCAA tournament.  To answer your question, yes, of course home court matters.  The definition of a neutral court game is a game not played on your home court.  It was 80 miles away.  Kudos to their fans for buying the tickets, probably many from MU fans that sold them...in fact I know several fans that did this.  They made the trip, or live in Milwaukee and came strong.

Again, if the game was played in Chicago, would there have been any less of a Wisconsin advantage? I doubt it.  Yet that would meet the criteria of it not being in the state that some are calling for. Are we going to get to a point that a school must travel at least 500 miles and if they have a strong alumni base in that city they also can't attend?

Oregon's game to lose...they lost it.  Wisconsin was vulnerable as hell tonight, and Oregon didn't get it done.

4everwarriors

Takes a scrotum full to D up in the second half, make up the deficit, and take the game away from the Ducks.

There would have been a huge difference in Chicago, more big ten folks who don't like UW.  More of a pain to travel to, it really isn't even comparable.  Wisconsin dominates this state like no other.  Perhaps you have forgotten what it is like here.  Anyway, I think we'll have to agree to disagree.

On a side note, I don't blame the refs either, but to say a home court advantage didn't take place or that it doesn't effect the outcome of games is foolish.

Well, I have a feeling you would have still seen a major advantage for the Badgers in Chicago.

Oregon gagged, they had the game, they gagged.  Grab a rebound, play some defense, etc.  It was their game, and they gagged.

Tourists come here.  Every city, state, and country on earth loves tourists.  It's good for Milwaukee.  And thus good for Marquette
