what's it gonna be Marquette? The next hire will define MU's basketball identity goin' forward. Yes, it's critically that important and the administration must get it right. The margin for error is minuscule. We're either pissin' from the top shelf or we're peein' ourselves, never to be relevant again.

Neither.
We'll continue to be Marquette.

And "overspending" is a worthwhile venture to get it right, given the turmoil elsewhere in the university

Current darlings Creighton and St. Louis both built their current programs on the Marquette Model: Good stadium, local support in urban area, great practice facility, Jesuit influence.

We are our own model. Marquette has survived the death of independents, the now Horizon League, the Piano Man, the Great Midwest, Kevin ONeill, CUSA, Tom Crean (I4), the crumbling of the old Big East. We will survive this, too.

Keep the faith, Warriors. Keep the faith.
We Are Marquette

Well said.  Perspective is difficult at times like these, but if you are comparing commodities, Buzz Williams is a much less stable one than Marquette University (and its basketball program) will ever be.  MUBB is in about as strong a position as it has been in 30 years and there are more good days ahead.

I have faith we will get it right or start over in no couple years until it is right. That being said, neither schools you mentioned (Creighton and SLU) are as uniquely dependent on basketball as Marquette. I'm not sure any school is.

Like it or not, The men's basketball team IS Marquette.

Louisville all the way. Cannot take any risk or we are looking at a very hard downturn. I love Louisville and their model and hope we become that.
