Does anyone have a good grasp of the rules on contacting coaches with teams in the tournament? Obviously no coach would want to talk (and I wouldn't want MU to talk to them) before their season is over, but what about once they're eliminated? Are you free to leave a message as their shaking hands at the buzzer? Do you have to wait a week? Until the end of the tournament?

Obviously MU will probably be talking to some tournament coaches - Shaka is worth a call (I seriously doubt he would be interested considering that he turned down UCLA, but if Buzz went to VaTech, its still worth a a bit of outreach), Marshall, Amaker, Masiello, Miller, Phillips all have teams still playing as of 3/22 AM.

I think it's all done through back channels. I think MU has a fairly good idea of where Shaka or Marshall stand at this point. Just because they won't mention interest in other jobs in the media, doesn't mean people close to the coaches and Marquette aren't talking.

Back Channels .... Call the coaches agent, that is one of the reasons you have a agent.  It's that simple.  If they do not have an agent like Buzz, they have someone else that serves in that role.

I doubt there are any rules at all. This is not the NFL. You could probably tap the guy on the shoulder during a time-out if you wanted to.

Clearly that would not be a good idea, but this is the time of year when coaches get hired.  Certainly some of them get feelers during to tournament.  Some of them frankly are probably negotiating contracts while coaching their teams.  All of it will be unofficial and not final until they are out of the tournament, but it certainly goes on.  When Tubby Smith went to Minnesota, his agent inquired about the position, put the deal together, and presented it to him before Smith even knew he was looking.
