Happened to the state of Indiana this year, but this is the second time in three years for the state of Illinois.  0 for 13.

State of Indiana has 9 I believe.

ChitownSpaceForRent

Considering Illinois is the best state for HS basketball that really sucks.

I was surprised by the coverage this got considering U of I is the only decent program in the state.  I think Indiana getting the shutout is way more intriguing given the quality programs in that state.

yea, considering your other programs are Depaul, ISU, SIU, Bradley, Chicago State. and Easter and Western odds are it wont be good. Every once in a while Bradle and ISU will be good and SIU hasnt been good since Webber left. Too bad because there is all the talent in the world in that state.

So, neither Illinois nor Indiana have a single team in the tourney.      Yoiks.

Good enough to get Matt Painter hired away by Purdue, and Chris Lowery then got them to the NCAA tournament three straight years after that.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Illinois is FAR from the best state for HS hoops.

Far?  I'm interested to see which states you think are better?

mugoose

And the women are the hottest in the nation, too.

Its not just top end talent though im talking about. You also have great High School players that have solid college careers. For example, Jon Scheyer, Abdel Nader, Jalen Brunson Dee Brown etc. next year but they still do have the top end guys like Jabari, Derrick Rose, Kendall Gill D Wade, Quentin Richarson and a lot of others.

Fact: Only one Division I school in Illinois has won the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

Loyola Chicago. In 1963.

Not exactly a tradition of excellence here, and Illini fans may rival Badger fans for the ratio of "Self-regard of program vs. Actual performance."

Blurb from p D6 of WSJ -includes a map showing all states with no teams in the tourney this year that I was unable to copy:

Indiana and Illinois have a rich basketball history, but for the first time since 1972, neither state will have a team in the NCAA tournament. The Hoosiers, who finished the season 17-15, also failed to secure an NIT bid. Schools from West Virginia, Arkansas and Mississippi have had tournament success in recent years, but won't be represented this year.

Dartmouth's last tournament appearance in 1959 was the last time New Hampshire has had an NCAA team, while Maine has never had one. Neither state was close to a bid this year, either. Dartmouth finished sixth in the Ivy League, while Maine and New Hampshire tied for last in the nine-team America East.
