This. It's naive to think that coaches don't look around. If anything else it will get him a raise at MU.

That said... if Buzz goes, he goes. I hope he doesn't, but the program will survive.

There is absolutely, positively no way in hell that Buzz gets a raise this offseason.

The article does not imply that USF thinks Buzz is obtainable... it's Mike Hunt's USF counterpart getting page clicks by throwing a high-profile coach's name into his story.

Beatwriter: Hey Mr. AD, you interested in hiring John Wooden?
AD: We're not commenting on our coaching search.

If Cords were smart he would get in on Wooden before USF!  I didn't even know he was available.

Or asks for one.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Virginia Tech just fired their head coach, so I'm guessing Buzz's name will pop up for that job too.

Well if that's the case, then I hate journalists more than I already do.

I won't believe these rumors until I see conformation from Usf17, usf18 or usf19

I'll admit, I don't know the back story here, so there may be more at play. But firing a guy after two years probably won't help them in finding a good candidate. Not sure any coach would want to have a clock like that for a major rebuild.

Virginia Tech is a much better fit than USF.  Virginia Tech is in ACC, USF in AAC now, but who knows what happens with that conference after Louisville leaves.  Then Cincy, then UCONN.

Don't see Buzz going to either.  Bruce Pearl to USF is probable.

I don't think Buzz is any different from any major D1 coach in the country.

Why would anyone ever say they are NOT interesed in offers? I don't care what your job is, it is foolish to never listen or be open to opportunities. Even the most prestigous programs cannot keep their coaches from being interested in offers. Roy Williams left Kansas. Pitino left Kentucky. You never know who is going to come knocking.

As a coach, you are foolish to tell someone you will not listen to an offer. You never know what could happen. That said, I highly doubt Buzz is actively pursuing other opportunities. There is a difference between being an active and passive candidate. I don't think Buzz has any immediate interest in leaving Marquette, but he will probably listen if an offer is made. What professional, in any career, would act differently?

This absolutely. My job is OK but I always listen to what recruiters have to say about openings when they call me. One of these days maybe they'll call with "the one" and it'll be too good an opportunity to pass it up.

And they fired the one before, so that's two firings in two years.

Buzz has said that he will never comment on job rumors b/c he doesn't want to appear arrogant or better than the school that a writer is mentioning him with.

I don't really understand how all these small schools think Buzz would actually consider them. Big East isn't unstable again and didn't do too bad in TV revenue.  Auburn is safe conference realignment wise, but South Florida is in Conference USA once UCONN and Cinncy finally leave. Anyways, if the conference is the issue Buzz should only leave for a BIG 10 ACC OR BIG 12 team anyways. Those are the top 3 conferences. The Big East will alternate with PAC for 4th every year.

Auburn is 25,000 total students.  USF is over 47,000 total students.  They're hardly small.

They're going to hire a guy who has a show-cause penalty in effect until the end of August?
Well, that'll make the summer recruiting circuit interesting.

Shoot my bad, just re-read the thread.  It's Auburn who supposedly is front runner for Pearl.   Don't know if Auburn cares, that is the rumor right now.  Auburn, USF and Va. Tech openings now, wonder if any further openings soon.  No one else on hot seat?
