Sorry, this needs to be posted here and on the archive because it's just that good... no wait, hilarious.

University of South Florida

Yes, that University of South Florida.  I'm not joking.

Q: At what point do we just start ignoring the "Buzz to" rumors?

A: If they're going to be this funny from here on out... never.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

When he stops putting his name out there. You do wonder though do these teams even realize how much Buzz makes?

After the winter we just had, I'm thinking about taking a pay cut to move down south too.

Do you honestly think Buzz would "put his name out there" to be head coach of South Florida? At what benefit to himself?

It would be a step down in almost every measure: pay, prestige, program strength, etc.

Not specifically for the USF job, but his name doesn't come out of thin air for these positions if it is well known, that, NO, Buzz Williams is NOT interested in offers. I won't take any of them seriously until Jeff Goodman reports on them ;)

Rumor: Buzz and Wardle trading jobs, as long as Derrick Wilson goes with Buzz.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

I don't think Buzz is any different from any major D1 coach in the country.

Why would anyone ever say they are NOT interesed in offers? I don't care what your job is, it is foolish to never listen or be open to opportunities. Even the most prestigous programs cannot keep their coaches from being interested in offers. Roy Williams left Kansas. Pitino left Kentucky. You never know who is going to come knocking.

As a coach, you are foolish to tell someone you will not listen to an offer. You never know what could happen. That said, I highly doubt Buzz is actively pursuing other opportunities. There is a difference between being an active and passive candidate. I don't think Buzz has any immediate interest in leaving Marquette, but he will probably listen if an offer is made. What professional, in any career, would act differently?

This. It's naive to think that coaches don't look around. If anything else it will get him a raise at MU.

That said... if Buzz goes, he goes. I hope he doesn't, but the program will survive.

I don't really understand how all these small schools think Buzz would actually consider them. Big East isn't unstable again and didn't do too bad in TV revenue.  Auburn is safe conference realignment wise, but South Florida is in Conference USA once UCONN and Cinncy finally leave. Anyways, if the conference is the issue Buzz should only leave for a BIG 10 ACC OR BIG 12 team anyways. Those are the top 3 conferences. The Big East will alternate with PAC for 4th every year.

Buzz will never go to a Florida school, his hair can't handle the humidity.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

If the D1 split happens, I'd want to be on the good side of it if I was a coach. In the future, it wouldn't surprise me to see good coaches go to bad programs, because they know they'll be safe when the football schools split off.

Why are they even entertaining the idea that Buzz is obtainable?

Honestly it makes me wonder.

The "Split" already exists...

Football Conferences: ACC, Big?, Pac, SEC, Big12, AAC, MAC, CUSA, Ivy, Mt. West, Sunbelt
Basketball Conferences: Big East, A-10, Mo Valley, WCC & everyone else.

What else is going to happen?  The football conferences are going to split from the NCAA so they can start paying their athletes?  Or is it just going to be the BCS conferences that split off?

Their main motive might be to make the job appear larger than it is. This way maybe they can hire someone better than they expected. Shoot for the stars.

The article does not imply that USF thinks Buzz is obtainable... it's Mike Hunt's USF counterpart getting page clicks by throwing a high-profile coach's name into his story.

Beatwriter: Hey Mr. AD, you interested in hiring John Wooden?
AD: We're not commenting on our coaching search.
Headline: "USF AD Won't Comment on John Wooden's Interest in USF Job."
