ACC tourney
« on: March 12, 2014, 12:05:59 PM »
Just flip on espn2 for the opening round of the ACC tourney. The 22,000 seat arena has have 3 of the 4 sides of the upper deck has a black curtin blocking the seats. This is the mighty ACC!

The ACC tourney USED to be the hardest ticket in all of sports. Opening day games with the expanded field? They figured it wouldn't do well especially during the afternoon, that's why they scheduled a Scotty McCreery concert tonight between games 2 and 3

It's just sad that ESPN and the ACC says we are the best and they close off 3/4 of the upper deck. :D :D :D

You mean 22,000 people don't wanna watch Notre Dame? I thought they were favorites everywhere ::)

It's usually pretty much a state holiday here.  Making the NYC relocation not seem so bad after all.  And Wake is playing right down the road from campus.  Maybe tomorrow?

Yet not a peep out of the press.

But when MSG is only at 75% capacity in the opening rounds everyone will be screaming about the demise of the Big East....

75%? 30% of tickets for the championship game are unsold.

Mike Brey is stubborn, and doesn't play his 5 best players.

They looked very bad on TV. Curtins blocking 3 of 4 sides of the upper deck. No joke, had to be 2,000 people watching BC-GT.

http://www.dukebasketballreport.com/2014/3/12/5499502/the-new-acc-tournament

from Al Featherston's article today:

Quote
But while the old arena was not packed, there was an impressive turnout to see the six worst ACC teams begin their impossible quest for a title and an NCAA bid. The lower bowl was packed on the sidelines and while there were some gaps in the end zones, there were plenty of people there too. Counting the 500 or so fans in the abbreviated up deck, attendance was probably close to the announced figure of 10,945.

As one wag put it, "it was the largest Wednesday turnout in ACC Tournament history." Of course, it was the first Wednesday session in tourney history.

I get the joke for the lower class but ND losing their best player midway through the season is primary cause of 15-17. No such reasoning for this program's mediocrity.
