Dayton's big win over St. Louis pushes them into the NCAA bracket while Cal falls to here. The addition of Toledo (a half-game back of Western Michigan in the MAC race entering Saturday) and High Point (using the auto bid from the Big South) pushes St. Bonaventure and Texas A&M out of the bracket. Next update on Tuesday 3/11.

Last 4 in my NCAA projection: Xavier, BYU, Dayton, Providence
Other teams considered for the NIT (ABC order): Cleveland State, Eastern Michigan, Miami (FL), New Mexico State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Purdue, Seton Hall, St. Bonaventure, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest

Note: Regular season conference champions which do not receive a bid to the NCAA tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NIT.  In the seven years since this rule was implemented, an average of 9 teams have entered the NIT automatically.

Our RPI just dropped to 80....I know that doesn't mean much for the NIT since its about attendance and such, but since MU would not be hosting a first round game anyway you never know.

That's not a given, is it?

What criteria is used to determine it?

A three seed for the third year in a row!

Who the hell cares about the NIT. The way this team embarrassed themselves this year, they should not go and spend the time working on their grades. Because the time they spent working on the game did not prove out too well.

I care.

I hate not making the NCAAs but I hate it even more that the basketball season definitely comes to an end.

It happened in 2000-01, Crean's second year, and 1998-99, Deane's last season...and it was hard.

I could really care less about the NIT. It's a lame tournament if you're a high major.

I'm probably in the minority here but I would prefer an NIT championship or at least get to the final as opposed to a guaranteed knock out in the first weekend of the NCAA's.  We're not NCAA tournament caliber this year.  I'd rather see some wins and gear up for next year.

You shouldn't. No one playing many minutes will even be on the team next year. Not like we'll be watching any developments. Complete waste of a season IMO.

I would find it very difficult to see it happening.

MU hosts Thursday and Saturday games, which means the NCAA teams arrive and practice on Tuesday and Wednesday.  The NIT pairings come out on Sunday night.  Yes, it is possible to have a game on Monday in the NIT, in fact when MU hosted Western Michigan that is what happened...teams were announced and less than 24 hours later a game was played with barely anyone showing up.

So it would seem to me Monday would be the only possible home game opportunity and one would wonder if we could get more than 3,181 we got back on March 14, 2005.

Yeah, I know. It sucks not making the NCAAs but they way this team has played, they're lucky enough to get a chance to play again.

I just think of the NIT as more opportunities for the Seniors to not have their season end and the freshmen getting post-season experience, whether it happens in the NIT or CBI.

And what have you seen that we will get a win in the NIT. We have just lost 3 straight!

I had forgotten that the MU schedule was based on the Bucks.

But what if they hosted the NIT games at the AL?
If they do that, the students and fans could make that place rock.

Then yes, that could be done I suspect.   I'm cynical that many would show up, however, to do any rocking of any kind.

The schedule for the BHO this year has to do with MU hosting the NCAA tournament.

DiaperDandy

I honestly think it depends on the opponent.  If mu were to host Indiana, that would be a hot ticket IMO, regardless of what tournament it is.  One can dream of that matchup, right?

I suspect IU would be doing the hosting in that situation

I honestly think we dont win another game this year. Didnt realize the nit invited so many teams, wow

They seed now in the NIT, so it's not about attendance. MU can play at the Al.

The MECCA (or whatever it's called now) would be better...and more fun...for the nostalgia

Top seed doesn't guarantee a home game. Kentucky was a 1 seed last season and had a road game

I wouldn't necessarily disagree with you, but in this case, getting knocked out in the first round, will have meant winning the BET, so I will. I think that'd be more fun and exciting.

nyg

Question is, does MU have to win it's first BE game to even get into the NIT?  Its not a guarantee at this point.

That is because Rupp Arena was hosting the NCAA Tourney and Memorial Gym had a show booked.
