MarsupialMadness

He's been looking pretty good lately.  He still makes some bad decisions on both offense and defense, but the killer attitude is a breath of fresh air.  And the guy is big!  I mean, he looks to be one tough, built dude.  I think he will end up being a force in this league.

I like seeing the ball in his hands on offense.  I look forward to seeing him develop in an MU uniform.  He's actually becoming my favotire player on this team.

mu03eng

I think next year Burton will be a force and the following year a potential all-American.  He has all the tools to be one of the best at MU in the last 10 years, he just needs the time in the program to develop.  His offensive game potential is outstanding and if he can just figure out when he needs to be the man and when he should facilitate I think he becomes the focal point of the entire offense.

On the defensive end he needs more work, but he's got the pieces its a matter of putting them together within the on-ball defense as well as the team defense.

His career arc will be the most interesting to watch of all the players on the team.

He should be the 5th starter.

He is so damn strong. When they got him the ball on the baseline to the side of the basket he just muscled his way up to the hoop. I thought he would get the least amount of minutes of the new guys besides Dawson. (this was before the McKay transfer and the Duane injury) But I guess you cant discount having a "college ready body"

Silkk the Shaka

I love Burton. He has an innate ability to score, the requisite confidence to be a go-to scorer, and good hands/off-ball instincts on D. I've posted this before but he reminds me of Jerel on D. If he's able to play a free safety/gap-shooting role on D I think he'll thrive in that kind of defensive environment and hopefully improves his on-ball D skills in the process. I see big things for him.

He can score and therefore should not play.

+1

As arguably our third best offensive option he will come off the bench and return to the bench after showing production.

He should be the 5th starter.

He should be the 5th Musketeer.

He could be Trevor Mbakwe-esque...

+1000 - Possibly the funniest thing posted here in awhile.  Well played.

I hope our bench keeps outscoring opponents' benches by 48.

Fixed it for you, though last night I wished they outscored the opponents bench by 56 so we could have won.

Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

I am impressed by the fact that he is absolutely fearless.  We desperately need more of that.

Once he learns the difference between a good shot and a ridiculous shot, he will be amazing to watch.

+1 and he has to learn to avoid fouling at a rate that will have him foul out if he plays 20+ mins

He is a freak all over the floor. Haven't seen someone as explosive as him in 11 years at MU.

But, he has to learn not to foul, a mentioned, and what is a good shot for him as mentioned.

He shoots way to often, as he can get a decent shot anytime.  But he has to take good/great shots and learn to pass out of the triple teams.  His FG% could be absolutely off the charts if he doesn't take every decebt shot that he can get.

ronald dragon

My only real problem with the coaching this season is that i think he should have got more playing time most of the year.

You could see that he already is on his way. He's not taking nearly as many contested jumpers and most of his points are coming in the paint--though you'll also find an improved FG% outside the paint over the last 5 or so games. One sterling example of his development was last night when he thought better of a 19 foot jumper in mid-air and fired one down to Gardner who had an easy lay-up. It was really nice to see.

He shoots a higher percentage than anyone on the team other than Gardner and Otule and we know where all their shots come from.  Have all his shots been good shots?  No, but with the rate he's shooting the team would benefit more from his bad shots than several of our players good shots.
Shut this board down at the opening tip.  If they win, open it back up.  If they lose, keep it shut it down until the next morning.  - Sultan of Slurpery

Amen. Seeing as this is Burton's freshman year, I am beyond thrilled with where he is. If he takes the next step next year combined with Mayo's development as a cold-blooded assasin, this team will have a nice little foundation for the young guys. This team should be fun to watch next year.

Buzz has said each year you build a new house. I hope next year is 4 guards run & gun total youth movement live with the good & bad. The roster makeup will almost demand it organically.

I will say this. Buzz is damn good at changing the tempo and completely restructuring his offense based on the personnel he has. If anoybody can completely change their entire teams style in one offseason, its Buzz.

Oh I totally agree. I just hope that's what we see, and I have little doubt we will. Buzz has shown flexibilty in style year over year. And as I said the roster make up virtually demands that it be so, I don't believe that will be lost on Buzz.

It would be a joy to coach him.

When you have the ball:  Get to the basket

When you don't have the ball:  Steal the ball

I could see 15 points 8 boards and 5 steals next year, and more in years following if he stays.  (and this would be in the 18mins/game he gets due to his "defense" problems and his foul issues).

No insinuation that he wouldn't stay... I just think he could make money in a big way after even one more good year.  First half of first round.

The NCAA leader in steals this year has 3.62 per game.
