Regressed from what? He's been awful since he put a uniform on.

warriorstrack

Hmmmm, NCAA last year come to mind

AirPunches

Confused as to the timing of this post. Has Juan even been in this half ?

No. It doesn't. Did he have 1 good game? Niv Berkowitz had good games.

brutal thread. some dicks in here.

JA played 5 frickin' minutes last night. His replacement (Todd) played 43. Who cares who "starts"?

Not to mention lack of basketball knowledge....Juan played good defense and was actually aggressive attacking the basket....couldn't finish but I like the aggressiveness and would like to see a lot more of that next year

Exactly.

I'm good with a 0 and 48 distribution.

Juan does not know what a good shot is yet, he is basically open on the wing to shoot a 3 but never takes it, then drives to the hoop to take some wild off balance shot.  Rather see him take
the 3, he might make one, vs. no chance on the drive.  Sort of like Todd to, he had a really good game yesterday, but twice he was wide open in the corner, could have taken the three, passed
them up and drove to the hoop for more wild shots.  Finally, he started taking some threes and made them.  The one point MU forgets that on a 3, if missed, the ball can be rebounded for a second shot, MU has had difficulty rebounding a 3 all year long.

Boone

That's still 5 more minutes than he should be playing.

LennysTap....

it matters who is starting becuase those players play about 8 minutes of the game (4 per half) minimum. we nearly go scoreless during those stretches. That is why. yesterday was no different. i think we had two field goals in the first 4 minutes and 3 in the first four minutes of the second half.

awful.

juan is awful.

The starters played 4:17 total game time yesterday together.  Juan played 5 minutes with good defense and an attacking attitude on offense that didn't result in success.  We were down 5 to 4 when Juan went out in the 1st half.  To call him awful is quite frankly stupid and reflects on you more than him.  He wasn't good, but certainly by no means a huge problem and he certainly had contributions to the team.

The problem with Juan is that he has no O, on a good team, he would be a glue type of player.  But playing Derrick, Juan and Chris you have 3 players with limited Offensive skills.  If Thomas
is guarded closely and Jamil is off early there is no scoring.  That is why lately they are down by 10 by the first time out.  We all can see that, can the coaches?

My point is the coaches do see that.  Juan was out of the 1st half at the 17:12 mark when we were down 5-4....he was not on the court at all during the PC run.  In fact for some of that Jake and Derrick were off the floor too.  So the coach pulled strings that most people advocate for and ended up with the result you point out.  I'm not defending Juan, he's very limited on offense right now, I just don't think there is a magic bullet that people seem to imply there is.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

I posted this in another thread, could dig up the actual stats again but don't remember which thread it was in.

Juan gets enough minutes to be considered our third option off the bench. If any other team in the BEast besides Creighton and Saint John's got the production out of their 3rd bench player that we get out of Juan, it would be an improvement. In some cases, a huge improvement.

So questioning why he starts, completely justified (I think he sets the standard for effort in practice and Buzz uses him to push the other players). Questioning the players he usually gets played with, absolutely justified. Calling him the worst small forward ever, not justified and false in every sense of the word.

I think we get bent out of shape because he technically starts even though his minutes are nowhere near what a starter gets. It doesn't bother me and I don't think it would really change much but others do not agree.
