Still a lot to be determined yet - but I said three a couple months ago with an outside shot at four

Not that surprising...hopefully we sneak in a 4th.

http://espn.go.com/ncb/bracketology

With Providence being the first team out and St. Johns the third team out.  Both can just as easily be back in the field in the next day or two.

source?

That would be pretty devastating to the conference reputation. Fingers crossed for 4.

It could be 5 schools, if things work out the right way.

Georgetown has Creighton & Villanova this week.

CAGASS24

Xavier, ouch - early in the year I though 5 was probable given that Xavier and Provi started off the conference hot - then when St. Johns picked things up I thought 5 for sure - man I really hope we can get 4 in -

willie warrior

Sad, but likely true. Hell, a case could be made for only two, but IMO three should make it. Fourth rated RPI conference in country and likely only 3 in?
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Mu2323

Honestly if MU doesnt make i dont care how many we get in the tournament.

Who is we?

WE should only refer to Marquette not a stupid conference.  For god sakes this is not BCS football where it truly matters what conference you are in.  This is basketball, games are played on court where it matters not in the hands of writers.
As for a 4th team getting in?  The only team I care about is if that happens to be Marquette.   In fact if providence, St. Johns dont get in; even better cause we did our job and most likely won our games.

We is MU....hopefully it is MU, but even if it isn't the more teams in the more $$$$ for Marquette and the more positive love for the conference.  This is a young conference, we need as many teams in as possible.

Mu2323

Not going to care how many teams get in from this young conference because this conference wont be here in 4 years.

MU's athletic budget cares, so you should too. Gotta root for things that positively affect MU if we're not in the discussion ourselves. It's all part of a holistic fandom done right. Become cripplingly consumed by the tertiary minutiae affecting MU hoops with the rest of us! Trust me, your life will be better off for it!

I'm happy to see I'm not the only one in this camp.  I can only hope that it doesn't take 4 years before the football powers sort out the "haves" and "have-nots" of the world and select whatever 64 teams they need to create their own leagues.  There will be plenty of good, football-playing, schools left for us to partner with that live outside of the power football conferences (e.g. Wake Forest, Kansas, UCONN, Cincy, etc.).  Just because someone is in one of those conferences now doesn't mean they automatically retain that seat at the table.

ronald dragon

While I am really hoping MU gets in if they don't I'll pull for a BE team to take the spot from them. Especially with a rebuilding conference like this I'm really hoping for a good March for the BE. And an even better March for MU ;D

MarsupialMadness

We gotta see how it all unfolds down the stretch.  Honestly, I like MU's positioning right now given the up and down season we've had.  If it's up to 3, right now I think Xavier has the edge.  But again we will see how it all unfolds.  It's still in MU's hands to go on a run, but it absolutely has to start tonight (and if not tonight then next Thursday!)

Well, since the television contract is longer than that, I'd be happy to hear your logic on this one.

I'll take the under on Fox Sports 1 being here in 4 years.

The $10billion television contract for the NCAA basketball tournament is with the NCAA, not with the football schools.  The NCAA controls the purse strings for many years to go as it relates to hoops.  The idea that they are going to go out and select whatever 64 teams they want is a pipe dream as long as the NCAA controls that television contract....which runs out in 2024.

LOL.  Please let's make a wager on this.   No way Shanks and Hill let it fail.  Absolutely no way...I've known these men for many years and you can bet your life savings FS1 will be here in four years.

Yes, it sucks if MU doesn't make it, but it does matter how many teams the Big East gets in. Especially a conference this young.

Agree, I'd like in on that action too. Sounds eerily similar to what folks said about Fox when the first started, or when they got the NFL. How'd that turn out? Fox to me is premier network when it comes to live sports programming. In my estimation having surpassed ESPN (NFL, MLB, NASCAR, NCAA football...ESPN may have more quantity, but Fox has higher quality over all). FS1 will not only benefit from that, but they will help augment it, and vice versa.

Settle down Francis. If you're an alumni you can say "we". If you're a season ticket holder it's "we". If you donate it's "we". It's a private institution that wouldn't have a team without "we".
