Beat writers, good or otherwise, are not allowed in the locker room before college basketball games.

That being said, it's difficult to be anything but disappointed with the way Hunt covers Marquette and, even more, the way the JS lets Hunt cover Marquette.

You hit on it. It is on the JS - they are the ones who do not consider MU to be any kind of priority. If they wanted the coverage, we would have it - whether it was Hunt or someone else.

Chicken or the egg discussion here, as one could easily argue that if coverage of MU made the JS more money, more web hits, etc., MU would warrant a better beat writer.

None of that changes the fact that Hunt is horrible. I often wonder why they let Rosiak fill that position for so long if they are okay with a guy like Hunt mailing it in.

Because when they moved Rosiak to the Brewers beat, they made the decision that MU basketball is no longer a priority.

Exactly.  And, that's why the JS is no longer a priority read in our house.

Rosiak was praised all the time for his coverage and sent many, many thanks you notes from MU fans.  All during the time he was covering MU basketball.

A good beat writer Mike Hunt is sitting at the scorers the buffet table in the locker press room before and after the game.  A good beat writer Mike Hunt makes note of the hard fall Jake took how many free shrimp are left.

So, a good beat writer Mike Hunt can figure it out can't avoid getting Spaghetti sauce on his sock tie without Buzz spoon feeding it to him.

Am I asking Does Mike Hunt weigh too much?

Fixed it for you...

I thought there was always bitching here about Rosiak's coverage too?

I loved Rosiak and was really sad to see him go.
