Holy crap. Jake had a partial shoulder dislocation in the Depaul game. Swollen/bruised all through the week, including tonight. Not sure which shoulder.

The one the python is coiled around.

1.  Most poorly officiated game ever.
2.  Amazing to win with Jamil and Todd playing so poorly that I was happy when Juan came in the game.
3.  Jake was the real deal.   Perhaps he can play at this level.
4.   Loved how Davante took over as the Georgetown big men left.
5.   Most poorly officiated game ever.
6.   Juan, Steve, nice games.   You both looked comfortable out there.
7.   John Dawson, you held your own.   Not a repeat of the other Georgetown game, but you held down the fort when Derrick got in foul trouble.
8.   Still waiting for Georgetown to miss a free throw.   That stuff is contagious.
9.   Can't get mad at the fans for being quiet.   No flow to the game.
10.   Not yet on the bubble, but we can see it from here.

11. worst officiated game EVER! i am glad we won.  i am sure the Georgetown fans feel they were jobbed but we ended up getting more fouls.

* This is news to no one, but Davante has amazing hands.  And those two assists to STj were outstanding
* Can those who have crapped on Jake all year, as well as calling Buzz stupid for playing him, please stand up?  The exit is right over there.
* STj loves him some zone defenses
* Solid game from Juan.  Square up to the basket young man and you'll have more offensive success
* Who stole the refs from the 1st half and replaced them with The Three Jim Burrs?
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

**STJr was OK on the offensive end, but two consecutive fouls deep in the offensive end when Georgetown was in the bonus?  Eh...

I think people have a tendency to forget there are two teams out there. I thought we played well. I thought Georgetown played well. We were the beneficiaries of an abundance of calls, IMO and we won the games what's there to complain about?

CTWarrior

1.  Jake was money.
2.  Davante was a beast.
3.  Refereeing in second half was ridiculous.  You have to be able to play defense.
4.  Seems like when we get a lead we relax/get lazy for a few possessions and take less than ideal shots (e.g. long 2 point jumpers with plenty of shot clock available).  To me, this is a recurring theme for this team.
5.  Georgetown's guards are great, they were Creighton like knocking down 3s early.  Luckily they couldn't keep up the pace.
6.  Early foul shooting was shaky, better in crunch time (mostly because Gardner was taking the foul shots)
7.  If Gardner rates closely to Otule as a defender, it is because Otule's constant looking to help, sometimes ill-advised, takes him out of rebounding position.  I just don't see what some others see where he gets beat in the low post more than Gardner.  Once in a while he gets scored upon.  So did Partick Ewing.  It happens.
8.  I don't recall ever having seen a make up technical before.
9.  Nice to see Steve Taylor, Jr. doing some nice things.
10.  Dawson got 18 minutes, but Deonte hardly any run and JJJ a DNP again.  I think Buzz has decided to go with a short rotation which always includes Derrick, Thomas, Jamil, Davante, Otule and Mayo, and then mixes in 2 or 3 of Anderson, Burton, Taylor and Dawson as he sees fit for that day.
11.  I like when Derrick pushes the ball and wish he would do it more often.

No, anyone who tells you Davante is a better 1 v 1 post defender is not accurate according to Synergy. The ppp vs. Otule on post ups is .575, in the 90th percentile of all college players. For Ox, it's a respectable .784, in the 60th percentile. Not to mention that Otule has been posted up  3 more times than Gardner. Chris struggles closing out shooters, but he is elite when it comes to the low post.

Niv Berkowitz

1. Some of the weirdest line-up combinations I've seen all year out there, and they were productive. Dawson, Thomas, Otule, Juan and Steve Jr.? Just crazy ones.
2. Terrible officiating
3. Enough of the "bad" Jamil and "good" Jamil. At this point, it's just "Jamil". He is what he is - an inconsistent player w/tons of potential w/not a ton of b-ball iq. He has good games and bad games, but regardless, he always makes at least 3-4 plays a game you just scratch your head at
4. Good to see Dawson respond out there
5. To all the DW haters, Dawson still had a stat line equivalent to, or worse, than a normal DW game. So...just saying.
6. Jake playing with more confidence then I've ever seen. Finally hitting some shots has him realizing he can be productive. God...I wish he played like this earlier in the year.

+1.... Against a decent opponent it seems like we can never get a decent sized lead and just hold onto it.  Seems like the opposing team is always able to get back into the game fairly quickly due to some poor shots and some stupid offensive fouls/turnovers.  I'm not talking about this game specifically but I've also noticed it to be a trend throughout the year.

One of the major reasons why they can not hold leads is the inability of having some knock down defenders, every good Big East team has good guards and our guards can not defend.  Jake
and Mayo are limited and not quick or really physical.  Derrick is just average and Dawson weak at best.  If you can defend, you can not increase leads.  Starks and Rivera killed us yesterday,
could get anywhere they wanted on the court.  This is why I will burst our bubble and say MU will have a difficult time the next two games against Archie and Cotton.  I do not know how Duane Wilson defends, but I know he is quick.  His quickness on D is missing.  The other point I would like to add is Jamil Wilson.  He is such a streak shooter.  Yesterday when he missed his first shot, I said to myself, another bad game scoring for Jamil and I was right.  He does not have an offensive mind just to keep on shooting.  The second half he barely took a shot.  Need his
scoring.

Had this Jake showed up more often in the first half of the season, he never would have been crapped on.

As for the refs, yes, this was a terribly officiated game. Thankfully, they swallowed their whistles when we hammered Smith-Rivera on that last shot. Given some of the barely touch fouls both teams had been called for, it was a pleasant surprise!

Yeah, that didn't happen. Watch it again, they showed the angle from the basket cam. Neither Juan nor Jamil touched him. Did a great job of staying vertical and not getting him with the body.

Sometimes, it's just good offense. Those two guys have been able to do it against good defensive teams and bad defensive teams

This. Great defense on the last possession.

Less sour than the DePaul win
DePaul just might be playing better. They beat Seton Hall after us. I am interested to see how St. John's game turns out. DePaul may be upticking and St. John's may be down ticking. It might be a more interesting game than I originally thought. I think DePaul beat St. John's the first game.

Glad to hear that. We were watching on a bar TV with no volume. From the one view I saw of it, I thought our lads hit him but obviously I will defer to a viewer who saw the replays. I do know that Derrick did a heck of a job forcing a tough shot on the previous possession because I saw that replay a couple of times.

Those were extremely weak calls even for the way the refs were calling it last night.  One of them I don't believe ST touched the gtown player.

Did a really nice job of shading Starks away from the basket without using his body.

Also, not enough people are talking about the charge Derrick took late. He made a fantastic read on that play. He was guarding up top when the ball started moving to the corner where Starks was. He saw the baseline drive coming, and hauled ass to get in perfect position near the block. Huge play.
