Does anyone else think that McNeal was robbed twice with his blocks?  I mean come on he did his best Nate Robinson and they call fouls on that....bs calls, I wanted them to show those on sportscenter   ;D

I said the same thing with the Nate Robinson comparison.  I think DJ had a block with a questionable call also?!?

Djgoldnboy

The first block was 100% clean...they showed a slo-mo replay and there was no contact at all.....the second was a ticky tack call at best as well.  I thought those two "blocks" were honestly the plays of the night, even though they went against.

"Ron Artest of the Big East"...I like that a lot, minus all the off court drama of course.

Mayor McCheese

he got him with the body, ball was clean, body wasn't, but yeah nice to see McRoberts who is 6'11"(?) blocked by our guards

Actually, I think the first block was a serious, hard foul.  True, he got all ball up top, but he absolutely clobbered him with the body.  The second block, I think, should have been a no-call -- looked pretty clean to me.
Never wrestle with a pig.  You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.

agree with Still a warrior.  it was the 2nd block that was clean.  the first one was a for sure foul because of the body contact.  i think the refs just didn't want mc roberts to be humiliated like Yao was the other night.  they probably felt bad for the kid so they called mc neal for the foul.  ha

Both blocks were clean on the top but McNeal got him both times with the body. They were the correct calls.
But I like to throw handfuls...

Big Papi

THe blocked shots were clean but McNeal did get body on both.  One more so than the other so one definite foul and the other could have went either way.

I'm right with you on this -- not only the coach, but the rest of team.  And how about the McNeal face afterward?

And since we're on the subject of JM, I'm not buying the Ron Artest comparison.  I think McNeal deserves better than that.  He's hard-nosed and tough as nails.  He is simply fearless.  He plays hard and will let you know it.  He'll get involved in scrums and battles for loose balls.  He'll get in the opponent's face a bit, but it doesn't come across as showboating or disrespecting.  Artest is an ass-clown looking for a circus.

Off the wall prediction:

Jerel McNeal will be the first player in MU history to record a quadruple-double.

He definately has the potential to do it.  Points are a gimme, but I could also see him rack up 10 assists, rebounds, and steals in a game.  He's already had 2 6-steal games this year.  It would probably come against a weak opponent, but he should have about 80 games, assuming he stays four years.

What do mean last night's win has gone to my head?? :-\

LastWarrior

I was very impressed with Jerel's play last night and his tenacity on defense.  He twice blocked a Duke bigs shot but just didn't get the calls.  His defense and steals were absolutely stellar.

rewatched the game tonight.  while the first block on zoubek was impressive, it was a foul as he made contact with the body first.  now, the block on mcroberts was clean and phenominal.  one other thing i really noticed watching the game again is that mcroberts is one whiny, foul mouthed SOB.  every time he missed he went straight to the ref.  i also noticed that our guys took most of the duke phantom calls in stride.  mcneal didn't flinch when both his blocks were called for fouls, even though he would have had a legitimate gripe.

classof70

Correct observation on McRoberts.  He was complaining and chippy all night.  Is that really the Dukie way!! ;)

MUMac

Both calls, though, were anticipatory calls by the officials.  When going up, they anticipated a foul.  In the future, as McNeal's rep advances, he will get the benefit on some calls or at a minimum, they will wait for definite contact.

As for getting him with his body, that call should go both ways.  McNeal went up - the offensive player was going into him.  Even though they are both in the air, McNeal still has the right to the space.
