A Marquette team with four NBA players lost to a 8-23 (1-17) DePaul team. That 1 win was against Marquette.

Quit your bitching. We won today.

1. I don't think there is anything that's going on today that doesn't go on every day

2. Just because this happened, people can't have higher expectations then a 2 pt win at DePaul?

We were as close as it gets to having loses to the only two bottom feeders in conference this year.

I'm one for taking the wins as they come, but you can't get on people who are not satisfied with this.

If people want to be mad about getting the win, fine.  It was brutally ugly, not much fun to watch, but you're right...it's a win.

DePaul was trying not to lose their tenth straight game.  They have nothing to lose...always dangerous.

I'm not saying I wasn't upset about how the game looked.  I'm not saying that I don't get frustrated.  But at the end of the day, we're tied for third in the conference and we're still alive to possibly go to the dance.

That's a good mindset and its mine as well. But I am definitely not satisfied with only winning by 2 in OT to DePaul. So its dumb to tell people not to be upset with the game. It wasn't a good performance. But we did win. People have different expectations.

Now, I just want a Gtown win. Ensure that we only play 3 BET games and own a season sweep over a fellow bubble team.

I was really worried about this game before it was played. I am just glad we won. How many of you guys really thought we would blow them out?

Not me. But, I was expecting it to kind of be like Seton Hall. While the 1st half was a little different they had a similar feel.

Against Hall in the second half we didn't gain control early and eventually about half way through they had the lead. We fought back and then took over.

Today they had another could hit water if they fell out of a boat start(same as 1st half) and we got up big. Then we got complacent. They made their run, fine. But unlike SH when it looked like we were getting control back we let them back in TWICE.

In the end though as ive said twice on here already, we won. But it wasn't pretty and if there are people who are not happy they do have some reason to be.

I've learned to take conference road wins any way MU can get them.

It happens to the best teams in the country all the time, just recently Florida at Auburn and they're about to take over the #1 spot. And it happens to lesser teams even more.

It's a win. It's a road win. No one said you had to win pretty (except for scoopers who require even wins by 20 to have less DWill, more JJJ, and at least 4 bigs signed during the game).

As a wise philosopher said: on to the next one.

I think it's great because in years to come DePaul should be our best, closest, and biggest Rival.  They've got some great young players and an allegedly strong recruiting class coming in.  They've stuck together through a tough year.  They could be very dangerous very soon.  I personally look forward to having DePaul return as a rivalry school.  I'd still rather have a home and home with Notre Dame, but that horse has bolted.

The only thing really ugly about this game was that it was closer than we think it should have been.  Other than the constant nagging feeling that we should just put these guys away already, I thought that was a very entertaining game.  Lots of scoring, went right down to the wire.  If you didn't enjoy watching that game, why are you a basketball fan?

Umm...

I think Gtown at this point is the biggest rival. They are the ones the fans turn out for. They are the ones that will be there year in and year out.

And the young(notice I omitted great) and recruiting as been a talking point for years. I'll believe it when I see it.

SHU and Providence are on far better paths then DePaul.

Fair enough.  Bad choice of words on my part.

Do you think GU fans consider us their biggest rival?  Doesn't a rivalry have to go both ways?

For instance I'll guess that DePaul fans night consider us their biggest rival.  Does that alone make them a big rival for us?

Who else would be Gtowns biggest conference rival? Nova? Highly, highly doubt it.

33-7 in the last 40 isn't a rivalry. Having more fans on their home court isn't a rivalry. Clearly their fans don't consider it much of anything.

I can answer that a few ways.

1) DePaul had lost 9 straight games 12 of 14 coming into this game.  In the last 9 games, the average margin of defeat was more than 16 points per game with three of those games by 20+ points.  They have been horid.

2) The first 6 minutes of this game, I wasn't sure if we were playing a DI team, DePaul was that bad.

3) But then I realized it was MU playing and the chances of us blowing them out, despite DePaul being DePaul, was going to be about 30%

I did expect to win, did expect to win by more than 8, but also remembered who we were so it doesn't totally surprise me.

As one DePaul poster said...the least inept team won yesterday.  Hard to argue with that.  DePaul played above their level, MU below their level.  It was not pretty.

MerrittsMustache

Interesting that so many were content with MU playing relatively well in the LOSS at home to Creighton but are all up in arms after an ugly WIN at DePaul.

I've always felt that winning ugly is better than losing pretty. Apparently not everyone on here agrees with that.
