I'm guessing I must have missed a thread/posts, but why the DNP against SH?

Lennys Tap

Probably because Gardner, Otule, Jamil sand Juan played well and he's been really, really struggling lately.

Struggling?  Thought he played great in recent games.

Ugh...the only game where he has played "great" is Georgetown.  He has been OK in a couple games, but was pretty terrible against St. Johns and Butler.

The Lens

We won.  Who cares.  If we're winning games I could care less who plays.  We could play Riley Crean, Bubba Williams, Chad Alvarez and MJ's twin daughters and as long as we're getting a W I wouldn't worry about JJJ's minutes, STJ's minutes or anyone else's.

And guess what Sultan, the same could be said about Juan.

Juan played well v. Seton Hall.  Better than Taylor played against Butler or SJU.

Please Sultan let's not go back and start cherry picking games--you know that Juan played below par in a number of games. I know you are, but what am I. C'mon man!

You are the one that brought up Juan.  And Juan in the last nine games, has only hit double digit minutes in three of them.  He is getting the time that he deserves.

Just like Taylor.

jsglow

No need to argue fellas.  Juan played well against SHU and earned his minutes that day.  Only so many to go around.  This isn't 3rd grade soccer and 11 getting playing time is silly.

ugh (sorry i couldn't resist)...i was just wondering if anyone heard anything pertaining to injury vs. buzz's decision.  that said, if juan gets the time he deserves based upon in game results, stevie ain't gettin' the time he deserves.  it was a great game by juan.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Taylor's minutes are probably the biggest enigma of he season. I cannot figure them out for the life of me.

Why?   Major surgery, non-linear recovery, lack of progression because of it, erratic play and minutes.    Seems pretty straightforward.

Add lack of ability to play defense might be a big issue as well.

Too bad he didn't medical redshirt this season.
I have been thinking about you a lot since last weekend. A whole lot.

Wrongo. Reading is fundamental. Lenny brought up Juan as an example of playing well. He has been erratic as Taylor.

Juan has some idea about D, offense another story, never seen a player particularly this year that can not make one jump shot, needs to help on the O side of the ball.  10 points from him a game would have been huge and made a difference on this team, to bad.  Taylor really is a mess on the D side.  Both will be a big part of next year, so they have the summer to figure out something about there weaknesses.  Unless MU plays three guards next year with Fisher and Burton.

We have had three players this year that have had one outstanding game. Anderson, Dawson and Taylor. Maybe 4, if you count JJJ's 18 point game against a bunny.

hdog1017

I cringe every time I see Juan Anderson playing meaningful minutes.  I'm sure he's a nice kid, but I don't see how he consistently helps the team win college basketball games.

MuMark

If Taylor plays it means Gardner or Otule sits now that we are not using the twin towers lineup anymore. Seems pretty simple...If Gardner and Chris are not in foul trouble and playing well Steve isn't going to play much.

Juan can defend the perimeter so he will get minutes when we aren't playing 3 guards or backing up Jamil.

His minutes seem to be go up and down dpending on how Burton is playing.....

Jamil seems to think the right guys are playing......

Williams went back to his upperclassmen-dominated starting lineup and pretty much limited the bench to Davante Gardner (16 points) and Todd Mayo (11). Williams, who tried starting freshmen Jajaun Johnson and Deonte Burton to shake things up, said there was no significance to going back to the lineup he used earlier in the season.

"The rotation for us is whoever is producing," he said.

But Wilson noticed the difference. "This week in practice it was all about winning," he said. "I'm not saying the freshmen aren't good, but we've been here. We know what it takes to win.

Woulda been nice if they had known "what it takes to win" in 6, 7, 8 earlier games, no? It's not as if Buzz had been denying PT to this group (except Mayo sometimes).

Juan's D on Edwin was big in the first half against SHU.  His long arms make the passing lanes difficult, and he works hard to deny the ball.  He also hit the glass pretty well vs SHU.  I'll take that Juan every game.

Non-linear = not straightforward.   ;)
