It's amazing they are having the recruiting success they are with such poor support from the fans. I would think game day atmosphere would be a huge factor for a sought after recruit in deciding where to go. That has to be discouraging from a player's perspective.

It also is a reminder that even though we sometimes complain about fans not wearing the right color clothing or the student section not being rowdy enough, we should not take for granted that there are 14,000 plus in attendance on average all the time.

Probably right, but city reputations are tough to shake.  I happen to like Cleveland, it still has a reputation from many years ago.  Pittsburgh is an awesome city, but for those that haven't been there to cling to memories of Steel City from the '60's and 70's, they have a different perception.

Seton Hall was one of the schools I was accepted to for grad school so I have a viewpoint which wasn't too great of East Orange, Newark, etc.  Admittedly, haven't been back there in years other than connecting through the Newark airport.

I like many others went to MU's debacle vs UNC at the Pru in the sweet 16 in 2011.  The military tank (with accompanying SWAT) parked directly outside the gates of the arena gave a very modern Gaza-strip feel.

Agreed, my recollection of Milwaukee in the early 60's is a far cry from the city today.   There are frequently political overtones to Newark bashing in 2014.   The Seton Hall fans at the Prudential Center were very friendly to Marquette Gold and much better behaved under their new coach.   The influence of a coach on the whole attitude within the arena is significant.

I believe that.  I can't believe it's been nearly 4 years since that psycho Gonzalez coached the Hall.  It rubbed off on his players.  Willard's squad is much more likeable.

That's one way to look at it.

Newark is beset by fundamental issues over the past four decades. That construction is moving at a glacial pace. Vibrant isn't a word I would use. Edgy, perhaps. NJPAC is nice but it's been there for years and most people are in for a show and out. The community cries out for business and then doesn't support it once it opens.

Pru is an outstanding arena but the buildup around has been limited to two blocks either way. Doesn't help when there has been a stabbing, shooting, and sexual assault taking place just in 2014 both on an event night and non-event night.

And, let's not get started on the impending federal takeover of the police department which will happen due to excess brutality and corruption for many years. That discussion will go on for days.

I attended last night's game and there were no where as many MU fans there this year as last. When a team struggles we loose that incentive to go cheer for the team; especially in a game that may not mean much from a fan perspective. Seton Hall has no where the the history and basketball legacy that Marquette has. I wonder how Marquette would do if they had to compete with Manhattan only 4 miles or a ten minute train ride away. There are just a lot of other things to do that are very close by. I think if next years class can contribute right away things could improve for Seton Hall's attendance.  They are in a tough market; but they are doing better that Rutgers, which has a fan base on par with Wisconsin but even less support; its more about football.

They did get rid of Bobby Gonzalez.  He was a dumpster fire.  I think they'll continue to improve and get more butts in the seats soon.

I visit it a few times a year and it's a real shame what's happening there. It used to be one of my favorite cities in the Midwest...but it's literally a ghost town now.
