Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is more of a popularity contest of the top-75 players.  If Duke signs you, you are much more likely to become a burger boy as opposed to if you signed with Xavier.  Right?

Assuming status quo (always dangerous), with Duane being a red-shirt freshman and Luke arriving in December, MU's newcomers don't need to take a backseat to anybody.   The challenge will be getting them here, keeping them here, and coaching them up to Buzz's comfort level.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

You realize about 15 of these 24 will play one-year or transfer after next year.

No. I believe there is only one player outside of the top 40 that is on the team and he is a 7'er who is ranked in the top 50.

The team selection is far different than the nomination process

Correct, see Marshall Plumlee.  He was a burger boy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshall_Plumlee

* ESPN ranked him as the #36 player in the country
* author Art Chansky called him a borderline top 50 prospect in Duke – Carolina – the Blue Blood Rivalry, the Master Collection,[
* Scout.com ranked him as the #68 player in the country,
* Rivals.com ranked him as the #79 player in the country.

Those rankings were inflated because of signing with Duke.

How good was he?  Duke red-shirted him his Freshman year?  Started no games, played a grand total 50 minutes and scored 2 points.  Did not see the floor in 17 games.

This year, his sophomore year, 126 minutes, no starts and a total of 17 points.  Did not play in 4 games and played 3 minutes or less in another 4 games.

Repeat, if he did not sign with Duke, He would have been a 100 to 150 recruit at UNC Greensboro.  But thanks to his older twin brothers winning a NC for Duke (Miles and Mason), everyone pretends this bust is something that he is not.  He signs with Duke goes to the burger game and gets ranked in the top 50.

Who was our last burger boy? Anybody remember? And, please hold off on the Gardner jokes.

We R Final Four

Still only burger boy ever out of the great state of Nebraska.

Does anyone else find the geographic breakdown of this list to be strange?  I mean...one player from NY....nobody from Philly...but 3 from Minnesota?  Few players from the northeast/midatlantic, but so many from the midwest and south.

The northeast would have had two more if Noah Vonleh didn't reclassify and Chris McCoullough didn't lose his eligibility.

Didn't realize the Husker state has a small number of NBA players: http://www.basketball-reference.com/friv/high_schools.cgi?country=US&state=NE

Milwaukee ALONE has one more than the whole state of NE.
Will probably change with McDermott. (Corrected by Willie)

WI, as a state, has 43:

Heisenberg's silly post aside, these guys aren't selected because they are going to Duke, Kansa, Kentucky, etc. They are going to those schools because they are the best players.

The East team has 10 of the top 20 ranked players in the country and the West has 7 of the top 20.

Everyone of the top 15 is in the game except for a 5th year senior who isn't eligible.

Was he on the same high school team as Harrison Barnes?

What does that have to do with anything?

These are concensus rankings by people who do this for a living. Guys who are as involved in basket as Buzz.

Of course there are mistakes made, but if you are trying to say that guys who are ranked 101-120 are as good as guys ranked 1-20, you are pretty clueless.

The rankings come from watching game after game especially on the AAU circuit where these guys play against each other all the time.

Next you can explain why 1st and 2nd round picks don't matter in the NFL - just some stupid scouts opinion. There is absolutely no difference between Johnny Manziel and Joel Stave. Scouts are just guessing.

Tugg Speedman

Bobby Knight invented a guy that does not exist and the "experts" all tell us
Knight is correct that he's a stud and he races up the rankings.

Coach K signs a top 150 guy (Marshall Plumlee) and the ranking services jump him to 30 to 70 and he becomes a burger boy just because Duke signed him.

You're sure ranking a not influenced by where a player signs?
