We R Final Four

Does it matter who starts. Yes, he needs more time on the floor.

Gotta give props to Todd.  He has learned to play within the offense and is taking good shots.  And obviously he is making some big shots in big moments.  It seems as though he has turned a corner.

Second, ... Has something this team needs and the team needs more of it

TODD NEEDS MORE MINUTES PERIOD.  I'D RATHER LIVE AND DIE BY HIM AND HAVE A CHANCE THAN BE BEHIND THE 8-BALL EVERY GAME WITH OUR TWO STARTING GUARDS.  AND YES, I'M SHOUTING.  ITS RIDICULOUS!

Todd is really good in chaotic/breakdown situations. Like the end of the game today. I'm not so sure he's nearly as good in slow, methodical, grinding situations. Either way, he's earned more minutes than Jake. And that's saying something, because I love Jake.

Todd is a college version of Nate Robinson.

Agreed. Todd can save the season more than any other guard on the roster. No teal

I don't care if he starts. But I want him getting more minutes when he is clearly hot.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

I wish he was a college version of the college version of Nate Robinson. That guy was fanfreakingtastic. We'd be 17-3 right now.

Todd, Dawson, Taylor, Jamil and Gardner should start and/or play the most minutes, without question.

That would be to close to the right thing

The fact that this HAS to be a thread is pathetic. We lose to Gtown if not for Mayo, we lose big today if not for Mayo, we look like a D2 team if not for Mayo.

ChicosBailBonds

Todd can be inconsistent as well....wasn't he non-existant in the last game (or perhaps the one prior...I can't recall).

Sometimes I think so many of us are looking for a hero to step up and be the guy that we lose sight of the fact there aren't a lot of those guys on the team this year.  Not consistently at least.

GGGG

The only good thing Mayo did against Georgetown was hit the shot to send it to OT.  He was awful for most of that game.

The JR Smith analogy is a good one.  Good Todd is very good.  Bad Todd makes you want to rip your hair out.

I believe the only shot he made in regulation was the three to tie.  Great shot, the most important of the year so far.  But let's not lose sight that for 39:50 he did little to nothing during Georgetown.

My thoughts are somewhat along these lines.  Other than Ox, and to a lesser extent Jamil, no one is consistent on offense this year.  In prior years, many of the starters and bench player's had more offensive consistency.  It allowed Buzz to vary the players on the floor in each game until he found the best mix of 3-4 players who could score.  We have not had that consistently yet.  For both Georgetown and Villanova, we trailed most/all of the game, forcing Buzz to continue to focus on finding that mix throughout the game.  For both games it eventually arrived and forced OT.  But I believe it also forced compromises at the defensive end.  Our overall defense, rebounding and hustle after loose balls was terrible yesterday.  If we had those consistent 3-4 offensive players, I believe Buzz could have given more attention to the defensive end.  While Juan is having a terrible year, we really need someone like him (or at least, Sophmore Juan) on the defensive end for his hustle and rebounding, but can't afford that since we need to find offense to stay in games.

Wrong on so many levels.

Marquette basketball is a better basketball program with Todd Mayo on the court. It really is that simple.

The "bad Todd" thing is so exaggerated.

If Todd wasn't on the team we have 5 wins maximum .

+100000 can't tell you how many times I have seen this happen on this board. People loved Jake the last game and hated Mayo (up until the clutch 3), and now everyone loves Mayo and hates Jake. This role reversal has happened between them several times this year.

MU82

For good teams, Todd is a "hot-hand play." You put him in there and if he has the hot hand, you ride it. If he doesn't, you give him 4-5 minutes hoping he gets hot but then get him out of there if he doesn't. And you try the same in the second half. Plus, you use him in the "desperate scramble" situations we faced against Georgetown and Villanova. Playing Todd this way, good teams might use him for 12 minutes some games, 32 minutes some other games.

But we have not proven to be a good team this season, so we should play him more minutes just because he has the potential to give us more production than Jake does. In our situation, we have to be willing to live with some of Mayo's ill-conceived decisions.

Really, if we are not going to commit to repeatedly setting double screens, Jake should play little for us because that is the only way he can produce. Mayo is a good enough 3-point shooter to help space the floor, especially if Derrick isn't on the floor with him.

Maybe we could put Jakes head on Todd's body!

We could get the best of both worlds: mentally strong player who has the athleticism to become MU's top scorer.

Or we could get Frankenstein: a shooter scared to shoot and turns the ball over.
