Why Todd Mayo is what the MU offense needs

It's difficult to determine exactly where Todd Mayo has improved in his junior season. The per-40 minute numbers are up in every major statistical category, and his percentages are improved from even his freshman season — his 3-point percentage stands at 32.6 percent, slightly worse than his 33 percent mark in 2011-12. His defensive rating [...]<img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=painttouches.com&blog=28348875&post=10547&subd=painttouches&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" />

I agree that an aggressive, scoring Todd Mayo solves a lot of small problems.   Right now, though, he isn't doing it every night.   He was not good against Butler, he wasn't good at Georgetown until he hit the big 3.     This team needs the good Todd Mayo.

The solution to the point guard - 'open it up" while playing defense - situation is Todd Mayo. It would appear to be so by talent, and if nothing else, by a process of elimination.

In the past, as previously noted, Coach Williams made significant changes (for example, the midget guards in year two, Dwight Buycks from the 2 to the point, etc.) as prepared the Warriors for their "run."

This year, it seems as Coach Williams, for reasons unfathomable to some of us, seems much more less willing to make the types of changes he made in the past.

One would hope that the Georgetown game was indicative of where Coach Williams  might be taking his rotation in a effort to earn a NCAA invitation.

Mayo and Burton have very much similar mindsets, even though their play styles are different. Both think shoot/attack basket first. That aggression is good if controlled. We have to have scorers and that is what they are. Unfortunately they have the tendency to play out of control from time to time--so they both need to work on that. Burton has more time to do so, Mayo should have developed that by now.
