To put this year's challenges and record trajectory in perspective:

04-05: 19-12; 7-9
98-99: 14-15; 6-10

I don't think the '13-14 team is nearly as hopeless as those teams were, but the '98-99 team's coach had the wisdom to play freshman with the hopes of improvement (although it cost him his job ::))

Ironically, the 04-05 Titanic led to the 3 Amigos in 05-06 (I believe all starting) and a return to the promised land.

For the last five years under Coach Williams, the Warriors - win, or lose - have really been fun to watch. This year, the are not fun to watch. In fact, it has become painful to watch.

One would hope that Coach Williams has not lost his George Patton attach mode mentality.

And LSU got the #11 guy and are meh
And Arkansas got the #16 guy and are meh
And Saint John's got the #17 guy and are worse than us
And Washington got the #19 guy and are worse than us
And California got the #23 guy and are just ok
And Notre Dame got the #24 guy and are worse than us
And North Carolina St. got the #26 guy and are worse than us

Getting a stud recruit does not allows equal success in the first year. Gotta give em time to grow and be worked into the system

How are you determining ND being worse than us? If it's by anything logical then....

but I do agree 1 nice recruit doesn't mean instant wins.

I agree about it not being fun to watch.  I can handle losses and still have fun watching our team usually.   This year doesn't feel like it's Marquette basketball.

Absolutely true.  Even when we'd lose with the Three Amigos it was fun to watch.  Yes, generally we got overpowered in the paint, but we could hit shots and run the offense.  Then we went through the Hayward, Butler, DJO/Crowder, and Vander years.  All very typical "Marquette" seasons.

This year just makes me cringe.

According to the RPI, all these teams are ahead of us.

65. LSU
68. Arkansas
90. Saint John's
86. Washington
33. California
99. Notre Dame
75. North Carolina St.

108. Marquette

And if you compare the stats to our two highly-ranked frosh, all of the examples you cite have worked their way into the rotation and contributing at a higher level

LSU's #11 guy: Jarrel Martin 10 starts, averages  9.1 ppg, 4.0 rpg in 21 mpg
Arkansas'  #16 guy: Bobby Portis 17 starts, averages 12.1, 6.6 rpg in 25.9 mpg
Saint John's #17 guy: Raysheed Jordan 11 starts, averages 7.4 ppg, 3.3 rpg in 20.9 mpg
Washington's #19 guy: Nigel Williams-Goss 19 starts, averages 12.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg in 33.0 mpg
California's #23 guy: Jabari Bird 9 starts, averages 10.1 ppg, 2.9 rpg in 23.2 mpg
Notre Dame's #24 guy: Demetrius Jackson 12 starts, averages 6.8 ppg, 2.8 rpg in 24.2 mpg
North Carolina St's #26 guy:  Anthony Barber 14 starts, averages 11.3 ppg, 4.2 apg in 29.0 mpg

JuJuan Johnson 0 starts, averages 5.3 ppg, 1.2 rpg in 15.3 mpg
Deonte Burton 0 starts, averages in 6.4 ppg, 2.3 rpg in 13.6 mpg

Now, I'm not saying that those other teams are better than us only becuase they're willing to play their frosh.  But you can't make the blind argument that our frosh are sitting while their's play because those teams are lousy and don't care about winning, while we've got too many good players and are in the hunt for a tournament berth.
