Noticed that Duane was dressed in a uniform on the bench.  Are you surprised by this?  Given he is a red shirt, I would expect him in street clothes.

Should we read anything into this?

warriorstrack

Wondering the same thing, answers out there...

warriorstrack

So instead of wasting an entire year of a player's eligibility on little or no playing time, college coaches have the option of tagging an athlete with a "redshirt," allowing that player to work out, practice and even dress for games, but not participate in them.

warriorstrack

Came from an ESPN article about football, probably applies to basketball as well

Keeps him involved in the team.....gets him used to game day and road trip routines....gets him onto the floor of the Bradley Center and other road floors...shall I continue?

I don't know other team's policies regarding redshirts, but Buzz's philosophy makes the most sense: keep the player involved and get him as much experience as the NCAA allows.

Tugg Speedman

I get that ... He can dress if he wants.  But if you're not going to play, that is for sure as a redshirt, why bother dressing?

See above.

BenCat12

The redshirt doesn't really take place until after the season.  If some freak injuries took place to derek, dawson, mayo, etc.....duane would have to play.  Therefore he dresses incase of a rash of injuries.  Also the previous comments about being involved in the game day routine keeps him a part of things.

Tugg Speedman

Can Buzz do the same with Fischer starting next week?  Let him dress and run through the routine like Duane?

GGGG

No Fischer isn't eligible to play.  Duane is.

Really this is no big deal.

We probably won't see him dress, but you will see him on the floor before the game going through the pregame routine with the guys.  Get him involved and comfortable with how we do things as fast as possible.

So as long as is not wearing an official uni, he can do everything with the team but play in the game ... Even go through the pre game warmup?

Sounds about right to me.  I like the idea.  If he's in a suit/street clothes, he may feel alienated from the team, albeit subconsciously so.

jsglow

I'd expect Luke to be in street clothes.  Others may recall both Jamil and Jake doing the same during their red shirt year.

I thought it was great that Luke and his family were at the game.  It's move-in day for him and I just have the sense that he's kind of a shy guy.  So if he's already friends with Deonte and Duane from AAU and has some of his buds from GTown on campus it'll make the adjustment for a 7 foot 18 year old kid just a bit easier.  Welcome.  Settle in.  You'll feel right at home very soon.

Something tells me the boys will have him at Sobelman's this week.

Beans.  No noodles.  And throw a cracker or two.   ;)
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

The big question is, can Luke come close to Jamil's style?  Dude was a walking GQ cover during his transfer year.

Texas Western

It is good for the team to practice with Duane and Luke. Their talent will help push everyone .

Litehouse

Theoretically, if Derrick and Dawson would both suffer season ending injuries, Duane could step in and play.
