I've been here for five years and this is by far the worse season on scoop ever.  Yes most of the comments here (or any message board) are by people that don't know what they are talking about, but in past seasons they used to be interspersed with knowledgeable commentators.  Today the only reasonable/knowledgeable comments come from Paint Touches and the occasional post, which is getting impossible to find.  The rest of the caterwauling about Jake Thomas hitting threes or benching Derick Wilson is just embarrassing.

How to fix it?  I might suggest that the posters consider making everyone put their name and email in the profile.  It's a lot harder to make idiotic comments when everyone knows who you are.

The beginning of the end was when BMA725 left.

TallTitan34

That won't stop people from using a fake name or email address.

Actually I think the main reason this board isn't good any more is because about half the posts are about calling someone else an idiot.  Thanks for your contribution.

I see what you did there....    ;)

Comes with the territory of having a disappointing team.  When things are going south it is much easier to find fault.  This team has the added dynamic of a heralded freshman class who can't seem to get playing time while those in front of them struggle.  Add in that there are reasonable arguments to be made for who should and shouldn't be playing and it adds up to combative forum.

I agree completely. I do find this season frustrating on the court and on Scoop. Obviously we all have opinions and it seems that everyone has drawn the line in the sand this year regarding their opinions. Some guys use stats, other use the eye test and others just want to support Buzz. Do find it funny that anyone on here feels the need to defend Buzz on anything. I think he is off the wall crazy for playing the backcourt he does, but still love the guy big time.

Finally, some forward movement on MUScoop!

From the sky is falling, the sky is falling to
the sky has fallen, the sky has fallen.

The MU basketball fanatic community is going through a year of rooting for a team that is not meeting expectations after five years of rooting for a team that for the most part exceeded them.  The best way to retain one's peace of mind is to accept that in such a situation many fans are going to blow a gasket and come on MUScoop when they do so.

I too miss BMA725-and BamaMarquetteFan, as well, who has more quietly posted less and less-but when there is news to be had I still find it here first.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

PVMagic

After the last loss I used the "past post" feature on a number of posters who were flooding the forum with complaints about Buzz, the Jake/Derrick saga, and the transfer assurances and was not surprised to see how many of these posters were only posting after losses (and usually the same complaints without much real content/contribution).  The team and especially the coach shouldn't be immune to criticism and I think this site has in the past done a great job dissecting the strengths and weaknesses of the team, but frankly some of the crap this year has been unreadable and embarrassing.

This. This. A million times this. I've got no problems with criticism or commentary, even if different than mine.

Absolutely right as regards BMA 725.  Sure do miss that guy.  Gave us the straight poop.

Agree.  And when the season isn't going as well as many expected, the various opinions on how to improve things tend to get more extreme than usual.

The thing that frustrates me most in seasons like this isn't that people have differing opinions, it's that the differing opinions often lead to condescending comments...like Heisenberg's OP referring to "people that don't know what they're talking about."  I'm guessing in Heisenberg's world, that roughly equates to "people who don't agree with me."

WI inferiority Complexes

If you can list a better college basketball forum for learning about Louis Vitton belts, purses, and wallets, I'm all ears.

mileskishnish72

CT & Murs, you nailed it - it's just been a disappointing season, which makes for more bitching on Scoop. Here's hoping for improvement.

Yes, the season is disappointing and that increases the bitching.  I get that.  However, I used to like this forum as I learned a lot about MU basketball.  Now I feel like I'm learning nothing about it.

For instance, where is Big Daddy or Tall Titan or anyone else close to the program to tell us what is really going on with Duane Wilson?  That's what I liked about this forum, both the knowledgeable and insiders sharing info.  Now all we get is made up crap that makes no sense.

As the example of the ignorance about MU basketball ... how many threads have we had asking why Steve Tyalor was not playing?  Is anyone that posts here actually paying attention?

4everwarriors

Frankly, this forum is as good as ever. 'Cept it loses a little steam when some are reluctant to rip the jewels off Crean. keefe more than makes up for the pontification of dudes like bma. Believe it or not, plenty cats on this site have more authenicated inside poop than what's regurgitated on the alternative sites or posters who have left. Carry on MUScoopers!

Sadly, your track record speaks for itself - banned from the Scout Board, along with another of my "friends" here, Sultan - Banned from MU Scoop for a year, yet so nuts you create a fictitious account and begin posting under Hoopaloop.  Pure Comedy.

Nice.....on the above link though.  Could you also link my response to BMA's manifesto to me - you know the post where I mention exactly what the original poster here is complaining about - the constant harping on Buzz and our players.

Irony is that I got bitched at back from 2009-2011 for drinking the Kool Aid and having blue and gold glasses on, and as BMA mentioned in his post that he was annoyed with my "Fellating Buzz."  Then, when in the vast minority of my posts - I actually criticize Buzz and question his decision to continue to play Derrick - then I catch more hell from a select group of 5 posters I've long battled with here.

No worries nonetheless Chicos, everyone knows your agenda here - and it looks like I'll be sending in $50 for ASU not cracking the Top 15 by season end.  Merry Christmas

I never came here for great insider knowledge. It seemed like that stuff was always a 50/50 proposition anyway.

I like to do virtual high fives when we're going well and to commiserate with like-minded souls when we're struggling ... and I still do.

But I do agree that the back and forth between people who don't like each other has gotten tiresome. "You're a jerk" ... "No, you're a jerk" doesn't make the best reading.

When it gets tiresome enough, I take a break for a few days. Nobody's holding a gun to my head -- not even George Zimmerman -- to keep reading.

This still is my favorite board to talk Marquette hoops but one thing has gotten worse:  the attacks on individual student athletes.

I don't really care if people attack each other on the board (myself included).  I don't care if people attack the coaching staff.

But I don't understand the over-the-top criticizing of 18-21 year old kids.  Sans off the court incidents or being a bad team player, I don't agree with the attacks on the players.  This has gotten much worse since this board was started and I guarantee you it is the reason why guys like bma do not post here anymore.

Your response to BMA is in the same thread I linked....I just thought people should know why BMA isn't around any longer.

Never created Hoop, you can repeat the lie as often as you wish, doesn't make it true.

I wear my banning from Scout as a badge of honor...you see it as some kind of negative thing...sorry, it is anything but.

Very true.  It's too bad that some cannot handle disappointment any other way.  Based on what was said about Buzz's latest radio show, this drives Buzz nuts, as well.

It also seems inane to me to criticize Buzz for who he plays.  He sees these guys nearly every day at practice and knows what each of them can bring to the table and what they can't yet provide.

I guess this depends upon one's definition of "over-the-top criticizing" or "attacks."

I don't think saying "Jake Thomas isn't good enough to be a high-major 2" is an attack. I think saying, "Jake Thomas is worthless and I wish he never came back" is an attack. Thankfully, I don't think we have much of the latter, but I know it does happen sometimes.
