He was recruited by Crean and played with the three Amigos.

Chris and I were in the same recruiting class (MU freshman in 2008), and it feels like an eternity since I graduated.  I am jealous.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Thank God he's on scholly.  chick jr. just got her LAST tuition check.  #realworldstarts   ;D

Just out of curiosity, I looked up when Chris committed (11/4/07), and found an article in the JS where Chris' HS coach described his game.  Here's an excerpt that...umm...kinda surprised me:

Courtney said at this point, Otule's offense is ahead of his defense.

"Chris is very multi-talented. He's got great post moves, I've even let him shoot a couple threes," said Courtney. "He can shoot the jumper and he can put it on the floor. I've gotten him to develop a jump hook with both hands, a drop-step and dunk on both sides of the basket. There's just a number of things that we've been working on.

Wow.

Chris actually had a drive to the hoop last night.  first time in his 6 seasons.

Bricky

His HS coach must be the size of an average HS pointguard.

I graduated in December 2008. Otule was on the team then. I attended my 5 year anniversary this past summer. Otule is still on the team.

Wow.

He didn't say that he made those 3s or even if he was close to making those threes - just that he let him shoot a couple.

wesmat23

Sad thing is, MU hasn't brought in anyone to take over his spot this whole time. Next year we are gonna see what he has meant to the teams he has played on.

True...but he did say that his "offense is ahead of his defense."  Has that ever been your impression of Chris, even when he first arrived?

Just sayin' I was surprised...

ATVSandKARATE

Are people still saying that he is going to be drafted or the next Roy Hibbard? I remember that was an actual conversation on this board (shudders).
I have been thinking about you a lot since last weekend. A whole lot.

Hell, I graduated in May 1982. Otule was on the team then!

Sure, they did: Davante Gardner.  It's not Ox's fault that Chris almost outlasted him.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

...that when he arrived at Marquette...

  • ...the iPhone 3G was considered cutting-edge technology.
  • ...George Bush was still in office.
  • ...the economy had yet to crash.
  • ...Hannah Montana was more famous than Miley Cyrus.
  • ...Walter White was still the good guy on Breaking Bad.
  • ...Tiger Woods was still happily married to Elin Nordegren.
  • ...no one had heard of Justin Bieber.
  • ...John Calipari was still at Memphis.

Davante Gardner is no Big East center.

bilsu

I had been wondering how unusual is it for a player that has played as many games as Chris to not have attempted a three? That means he never had a desparation shot at the end of a half, end of a game or end of shot clock.

Deonte Burton, JuJuan Johnson, John Dawson and Duane Wilson were all in 7th grade!

The Day Otule signed with MU (November 4, 2007) they were in sixth grade!

The guy has played with every active (or recently active) MU NBA player minus Wade and Novak.

I'm sorry, when was Chris Otule named first team Big East?  I missed it.

Yet, if he stays healthy and we go "one and out" in both the BEAST and NCAA/NITs, he'll only be tied for 10th in all time games played. :o

Just think how many games McNeal, Matthews, and James should have logged had there not been asinine training practices that injured players needlessly as well as proper game leadership that would have taken such talent deeper into the tournament each of their four years at Marquette. Such wasted promise.
