New look bracketology has us at a 12 seed.  Though that's probably where we should be right now it sucks to see us in a play in game.  Also not very much love for the BE as it just says the three traditionally big time C7 teams and Creighton make the tournament.  Would be fun to play Jeronne Maymon though.

Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

As of now, we are The bubble team!!!

He has us in the play in game against Tennessee (JMay!) for the right to play #5 Memphis.

Hmmmm.....This does not square with the soothsayers on this board who are now saying we are anywhere from an 8 seed to a 11 seed. Lots of basketball yet to be played, but we will need to pretty much own the conference to get in solidly.

Does that mean we'd have to go to Dayton?  I'd almost rather not be in.

The way our program is trending - there is ZERO excuse for not making the tournament. ZERO. (barring major injury)

IMO, in future years, we may need to be more impressive in the non-conference season bc the weight of Big East Conference games may not carry the same night in and night out. (as it did previously)

Plenty of high quality programs have missed the tournament in off years.  It's not the end of the world if they do.

I'd consider losing Nerlens a major injury.

I would consider Duane Wilson's stress fracture a major injury.

Eh...they went 4-3 in the regular season games he missed. 4-4 if you want to count the one in which he got hurt, but he played 23 minutes, and they were getting beat pretty good when he went down. The whole year was pretty much a struggle with or without him.

North Carolina missed in 2010 after winning n.c.
Kentucky missed in 2013 after winning n. c.
AZ missed in 2012 and 2010
UCLA missed in 2010 and 2012

Just a few examples of high profile "blue blood" type programs missing the NCAA tournament.

It happens, teams have rebuilding or down years.

I agree, but plenty of posters here went apeshot crazy when we missed it the last time. We weren't even supposed to be that good that year, while this year we were picked to win the Big East.  If we don't make it, it will be curious to see the reactions of that group.

There were no posters 'here' when we missed it last time.   There was no 'here'.   Not to mention there were two future NBA players on the team.   And I was right next to you on the jsonline forums arguing on your side against Abe Froman.     Stop playing the martyr.

Some solid backups to an argument (not sure if you know how this board works...).

OK. Missing the tournament every once in a long while is VERY possible; and probably inevitable.

However, missing it a year that we are supposed to win the BE would be tragic. (That being said, I dont see us missing this year)

I can't wait for MU to get its first quality win--it's imminent. This board will be so much more chill. We go through these freak-outs every year and every year MU notches some solid wins and all is well. Patience is key.

Borrowing from a thread on another site..... 2010-11, OOC, our best wins were Bucknell, UWGB, and UWM.   MU lost to Duke, Gonzaga, Wisconsin, and Vanderbilt.    Granted, MU had to finish with a flourish to get in.   But where MU is right now is hardly uncharted territory.

I think we get in also, as a seed higher than a 5. The tournament isn't for another 2 months, things change. The team will find it's identity and be a solid tournament team come March.

We were also in the best single-season conference ever, where there was a marquee resume game almost every time out and the 9th and 11th place teams were in the Sweet 16.  Consistency in BE play will be everything, since it won't be possible to make up for losing to a mediocre team by just beating the top 15 team scheduled a few days later.

Making excuses for not making the dance is fun--just like making excuses for not alnding a quality big every decade or so.

With big wins over...who, exactly?  You don't get handed a 4 seed or higher with your best win being St. John's or home to a mediocre Georgetown type team.
