Why didn't you list IU on here based on the threads?

IU only is brought up as an ancillary based on their current head coach. I think most people here have no real problem with the team or players or university. It's the coach. And, by extension of feelings for that coach, people talk about the team. If he left IU, i don't think anyone would be talking about IU.

1)  ND
2)  DePaul (though they hardly "rival" us recently)
3)  UW

Just out of curiosity, where is Cincy?  How many times have we played them?  I can rememeber some great games with those guys, especially during the CUSA days.

MUMonster03

It's impressive that ND can win even when we play Louisville or UWM  :)

Answered UW Madison based on current scheduling.

If ND werre on the schedule, they would be #1.

As a student from '78-82 it went:

1) ND
1a)ND
1b)ND
1c)ND
2) DePaul
3) UW

I personally hate ND the most, but not having them on the schedule consistently probably excludes them from the biggest rival discussion.

I guess I would have to say it's UW now because of geography, recruiting, and bragging rights.

I hope our new conference creates some new rivalries that could surpass MU v. UW. Who knows, maybe DePaul will get their heads out of their backsides at some point to elevate the traditional rivalry.

tower912

Hard to say, anymore.   I never thought UW was, but with the fracturing and restructuring of the Big East, I don't really have anyone other than Georgetown that I have a healthy dislike for.    A year ago, two, I would have said ND or Louisville.   Today, I guess by default, it is UW, simply due to history and continuous play.

Any particular reason?  I remember a couple of fans on their board were all poo-poo after losing to FGCU and took out their frustrations by hating on our success, but I generally find them agreeable.  And because they're the de facto flagship program of the BE, I generally find myself rooting hard for them, especially in the OOC.

tower912

I think I dislike them because they and their fans do see themselves as the de facto head of the Big East.   Also because of some of the games that have been played between the two schools.

Can always tell when Chicos is bored at work.

NersEllenson

Why was Chico's not included as a vote option??   ;D

Kidding aside - I'd voted Wisconsin.  Hate losing to them because their fanbase is insufferable.

I wonder how many on that list would consider us their biggest rival?  Maybe Depaul and UWM?

Who would UW consider their biggest rival? I'm sure many would say MSU, OSU, or IU, but I bet that sense of rivalry wouldn't be reciprocated by those fan bases.

Hard to have your biggest rival a team that we don't even play.
If you don't think Wisky is a rival my guess you live in Chicagoland and think its dePaul or Loyola.

We've played ND 118 times.  They rank second for MU (behind UW) and we are number 1 for ND (Depaul is #2).

Most ND fans (ie., "low information" fans) think their biggest rival is the best ranked team on this year's schedule.  Those that are true ND basketball fans recognize MU as one of their biggest rivals, along with Depaul and IU.

Didn't think I needed teal, but I guess I should have.
