All in all a fair post - though I still say Dawson can do what Derrick can do right now - as I don't think Derrick does all that much....keep in mind today's competition.  The ASU game is the only glimmer of hope Derrick has offered that he can be a good* PG at this level.  Hope to see more of it from Derrick or Dawson, as it will bode really well for this team.

Compare...not even close.  And it isn't really a matter of minutes as JD is averaging 12 a game. Dawson has a good assist % as does Derrick, and they are combined 0-10 from three.  That is about it where they are the same.  Other than that, JD looks like a freshman. Dawson has the lowest Orating on the team...by a lot. Why? Cannot hit shots and makes turnovers, and like most freshmen, has to learn how to play defense better.

Derrick plays good defense, doesn't turn it over, draws fouls, and makes assists...MU is #8 nationally in assist % as a team.  Until JD proves he can add something Derrick cannot, he will be eased into mop up minutes to gain experience as he does have potential.  The fact is, if Du was healthy, he would be getting those minutes as he can get points--better shooter, better dribble penetrator.  But, there will be the same freshman issues with the other things with him.

Derrick is the man.  Will JD be good eventually?  Yes

Give Dawson 38 and 39 minutes a game and watch what would happen.  Dawson is poised, confident, and has much better court awareness and vision than does Derrick - not to mention better jump shot form...and that will translate into baskets.

Why would Buzz play Derrick 38 & 39 min. (in 2 losses) when he has a equally good PG sitting on the bench?

And don't say "loyalty", because "loyalty" doesn't = 38minutes.

Wishful thinking. Dawson is currently not a 38 to 39 minute player and hasn't shown to Buzz that he should get that much time. He did well against a cupcake backup while Wilson did even better against the cupcake starters.

So again we are back to "Buzz doesn't see what I see," or "Buzz is only playing Derrick out of loyalty."

Piece of advice...  When those are the only answers you can come up with to the question "Why isn't Dawson playing more?", you may need to come up with a third...

"Dawson isn't as good right now."

Buzz was 'loyal' to Junior.   How many minutes did he average?    Other than 09-10, please list the players for MU who consistently played 38 mpg.   There aren't any.   There is a reason that Buzz, the one who sees the team every day, the one entrusted with building the program, is doing this.

Derrick has looked great these last three games. Playing with confidence and is even hitting his free throws.

He is also a better on the floor leader than we realize. I was second row for the game today and Derrick never stopped shouting out directions to his teammates. Jamil nearly went off on the refs after a bad call and Derrick got in his face and told him to calm down. Jamil did and then responded with a three pointer on the next trip down.

Derrick brings a lot of unseen value to this team.

Hmmmm, maybe this is the the DeWilson that Buzz has been seeing every day, the same one named the starter even when Duane was healthy.   The football quarterback.   The one attempting to take on the mantle of leadership.

Really liked his game today. He had 2 TO's but one was because Mayo slipped and fell. He also played well off the ball making cuts and getting a couple of easy baskets.

Derrick will lead us to great things.  He understands servant leadership. He has the tools to get us there.

Book it.

We need him to drive and finish strong like he has the last few games.  Props on the FT shooting too.

I would be great if one of you stat guys could do some work on DeWil as a Junior vs. Junior as a Junior.  I remember clearly seeing JC up his game once he became 'Senior' Cadougan.  But I also remember that we were a very good 4th in the BEast and made a very nice S-16 run during his Junior year.  My point is that DeWil's PG play this year might be plenty good enough if he can continue to play at this level.

If he plays like he has this week, there's no reason we can't still have Elite 8 or Final 4 dreams. If he continues to develop his game, the sky's the limit.

That said, John Dawson did hit a three today...

You guys are crazy with your analysis and stats and such. Too much logic. Dawson is already better than Derrick. Regardless if he's shown it at all. And you have to disregard whatever Derrick has done - Dawson could have done it better, if only he were given all of Derrick's minutes.

We still don't have a PG that can create or score.  Davante also was the leader on the floor hollering instructions both on offense and defense.
