Was very encouraged with MU's play last night - far and away their best game this year, because it came against a very good ASU team on the road.  Look at ASU for a minute:

1) Likely All American Point Guard in Carson
2) From what I saw, at least a 1st Team All Pac 12 wing in Jermaine Marshall - kid has a lot of game.
3) A 7'2" Center in Bachynski who will be playing NBA ball...and most assuredly will be 1st Team All Pac 12

When a team has that kind of quality at those 3 positions, it will be a Top 20 team.  Period.  We played without our best guard, Mayo, but finally Derrick Wilson asserted himself and played aggressively.  Jake gained some confidence.  And we got some contribution from JJJ, Burton, and DG was back to his usual self.  Biggest disappointment in this one was Otule - Bachynski ate him alive, and totally rendered him ineffective on offense.

I can't see how Bachynski and Carson don't go in the first round of the upcoming NBA draft, even with an already strong group coming out.  Bachynski has really taken his game up a notch.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

GGGG

They are going to have to improve their defense.

Bachynski was barely on the NBA radar a month ago. He'll likely be on a roster at some point because of his size, but he's got a lot of work to do to become a 1st Rounder. Then again, Hasheem Thabeet went #2 overall so you never know.

Pff, yea.  I remember they were saying that he was the next Mutombo.

MUSF

They certainly have a lot of good pieces.

They aren't a top 15 team

Maybe not, but they're still a good team that will dancing in March if the wheels don't fall off.  A lot of talent on that team, and a top 4 finish in the much improved PAC12 is likely.

Do not disagree on their NCAA chances, just think putting them in the top 15 teams in the nation is a bit much.  Any rankings at this point are beyond silly, they don't mean a thing.  A few months from now, then take a look at them.

There shouldn't be any doubt, the tremendous value of a good big man after this game.  Hope Buzz signs one or two more good bigs.  We simply couldn't compete with Bachynzki.

Care to wager?  Based on end what ASU is ranked going into the NCAA...

Aren't you the guy who keeps banging the drum...we'll go as far as our guards take us?  Do you not think Carson is a Top 5 PG in the country?  Don't think Jermaine Marshall and Bachynski are big time talents?

Sendek with a top 15 team? I highly doubt it. He may have talent on the roster but he isnt a talented coach at all.

Sure does.

I think Sendek has had one team in his career finish the season in the top 15. It was an NC State team that featured Julius Hodge. He should have had another top 15 team when he had Pendergraph (an NBA player) and James Harden. Instead, they finished #19.

They play DePaul soon...the same team that ran them out of the gym last year. Yes, DePaul. Sendek is known for having the ultimate WTF losses. It's hard to be a top 15 team when you blow lay-up games.

Sure.  AP poll

I think they are big talents.  I think they have a lot of holes and will finish 4th in the Pac 12.  Now, unless the Pac 12 is suddenly the best conference in the nation, the 4th place team in the Pac 12 does not equate to a top 15 team....IMO.

Good point on a 4th place Pac 12 team not equating to Top 15 team...I just think they will finish 1st or 2nd...

Let's go $50.

No No NO

This team will not have 3 1st team all Pac 12 players.

Bachynski has never averaged 10 pts a game or 6 Rebs a game and will be 25 when he graduates. He has little offensive game other than easy dunks and putbacks. We made him look awfully good last night.

Good deal.  Best of luck

Coleman

There is no way ASU finishes top 15. Maybe a fringe top 25 team. Maybe. They are a 6-8 seed in the tournament.

Not a terrible road loss to a team that will be in the tournament. But Ners, let's not exaggerate the opponent to make us feel better about losing. I don't care for that.

Agree to disagree - Bachynski basically abused Otule, who is a good defensive center.  Think 2 or 3 of his block came against Chris.  Shows very good shot blocking instincts - and no, not all 7'2" guys are good shot blockers...say what you want about his past - he's averaging 14.0ppg, 11.8 rebounds per game and 4.8 Blocks per game.

We have 2 good bigs, and Bachynski still put up his exact averages - 14ppg, 11 rebs, 7 blocks though.  Guess we'll see..

I was influenced by what I saw of ASU against MU last night...but this isn't a case of trying to make us feel better about losing.  Top 10 Ohio State could only muster 55 against us.  I like Carson better than Craft.  And I think Marshall was as good/better than the wings OSU had, and Bachynski better than any of OSU's bigs.  When you have 3 high level players at those positions....you are going to be good.

I think ASU is better than most people are giving them credit for. Rankings right now are worthless, as we have unfortunately proven. Should be very interesting to see them play in the Pac 12 this year.

They are a good team, just don't think they are top 15 good.  Happy to eat my words in a few months if that is the case.

My biggest beef with them is that they are not deep.  Basically 6 guys.

ChicosBailBonds

Ners, I believe the final AP poll is done at the end of this week.  Unlike the coaches poll that does one after the tournament, the AP stops prior to the tournament.

You were a good sport about this and it came to mind today for me as my daughter has to go back to Children's Hospital on Wednesday for a few tests.

So...the $50 should go to Juvenile Diabetes Fund.  Much appreciated
