Is the highest on "others recieving votes" in both polls. Hopefully someone gets knocked off this week and we can get our 2nd Big East team ranked.

🏀

Looked pretty good last night against UMKC.

Plenty of game outside McDermott.

We are right on the cusp on every single poll out there in the 26-27 range. If we get a win at St. Joe's this weekend we should be able to pop in. Game started out rough with 8 early TOs and a 23 all game but we closed out the half on a 25-8 run. Doug was himself last night after being in foul trouble all game on Friday on some bogus calls. The offense was efficient and the team executed the "one more pass" pretty effectively. Looking forward to our first test on Saturday.

Unfortunately, the way it works, someone also has to lose...

But I agree, you guys are close, and should be there.

A program that hasn't been relevant in five years being a first test? Seems a strange mindset for the team with everyone's darling All-American.

Almost any road game in men's college basketball is a test.

Agreed. We got completely outworked there two years ago and lost. Last year out our place we blew them out of the water. They will be looking for revenge. Playing Alcorn State and UMKC are not tests, they are practices. Playing a better team than that on the road is always a better guage of where you are at. Also factor in Joe Lundardi being there and you want to look as good as you can in front of him when he's going to be on ESPN 10,000 times come February and March. We should win but it is a test.

In the sports cliche world, sure.

In the real world, a team you crushed by 30 last season having graduated their best player that has lost at least five games at home in each of the last three seasons isn't a particularly difficult test, especially with an All-American and ninth-year Point Guard on your side. It would be a bad loss rather than failing a tough road test.

See Marquette....2012-13....@UWGB.

I think Creighton fans need to realize that now that you are in the BE, and supposedly a contender in the BE, losing to a St. Joe's team that went 18-14 would be nothing but a bad loss.

Its a better gauge on where we are at as a team as opposed to the RPI bottom feeders. Should be a win.

Is there any evidence that they don't?  All this because a Creighton fan called an away game at St. Joe's their first test?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

As stated above, we lost @UWGB last season, and made the Elite Eight.
In 2011-12, we lost @LSU (which went on to lose in the first round of the NIT), and then made it to the Sweet Sixteen.
And in 2010-11, we just barely got by @UWM (in just barely a road game), and made it to the Sweet Sixteen.

Sports cliches usually come from real-life situtions...in this case, situations where really good teams have lost to (or just barely beaten) teams that they "should have" easily beaten.

I have no doubt that Creighton is much better than St Joe's and is capable of taking them behind the woodshed.  Still, a motivated team playing at home could very well make it uncomfortable for Creighton if the Jays don't play well.

No mention of NC State in 09-10 or Dayton in 08-09?

But ya the guy wasn't trying to say it was like playing OSU, but is it a test that is above the teams they've played so far? Absolutely.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

Yes that is what I meant. I am confident of our chances but we went in there and lost 2 years ago and they want blood after the blowout last year. We'll get the win.

The first road game is always tough to win, so you should schedule the toughest team possible. Losing on the road to a middle of the road team does nothing for you. Opening up at Kentucky or North Carolina will almost always result in a loss, but the rest of the season the announcers will say how tough of a schedule you have. That is why the Ohio St. home and home is good, especially for the away team. Ohio St. wins and it is a quality road win. Ohio St. loses and the announcers will point out the rest of the year how tough their early schedule was. This year it is a win win for them. Next year it is a win win for us.

I agree. Rumors circling around Creighton is that Rasmussen (AD) is using his new NCAA selection connections and an H&H is in the works with Michigan St. and possibly even Oklahoma. The thing to keep in mind with the St. Joes scheduling is the position Creighton was in when it was scheduled. At the time it was a solid match-up between two of the better mid-majors. The ONLY possible scenario of Creighton getting a KY or a UNC or OSU would be a buy game at their place. Creighton is not interested in that and shouldn't be and most of those teams would refuse to play Creighton anyways.  Obviously in the last 8 months things have changed dramatically since then and scheduling will get better in a couple years. Creighton being able to schedule a couple H&H's with habitual top 25ers is a lot more feasible now than it was 15 months ago.

I'm not so sure about that. Marquette can't even really schedule "perennial top 25" teams for home and homes every year, not counting Madison. OSU is huge and definitely qualifies, but the likes of ASU, NCST, LSU, Vandy, are all middling big conference teams that we more often get, and really that is completely ok. If you can go out and get a H and H with MSU, you go out and do that, but I wouldn't expect that every year. Getting teams like Clemson, Kansas state, and Oregon State would be ok as well. I really just hate having teams like Grambling come by anyway. I just want our cupcakes to be in the Kenpom top 250 is all.

Thats fair. I hope we can get H and H with a perennial every year but I doubt it will happen. Right now the MSU rumor is just that, a rumor. The AD being on the selection commitee will help though. I think we'll be able to consistently get teams like the ones you mentioned though which aren't bad. But even in the past we weren't even able to get those teams in our house. Either way I think there's going to be a nice change.

Born and raised in Milwaukee. Went to Marquette High and was a big Marquette fan. Then wen't to school at Creighton and have been out here ever since. Creighton season ticket holder and diehard fan now but still follow Marquette pretty closely.  When push comes to shove I'll be rooting foor CU but I would say MU is still #2. Now that we are in the same conference I'm excited for the two matchups each year and am happy to provide a Creighton POV on the board.
