Going to the js website hurts, but two things gleaned from Hunt's stories.   1.  Jake is currently the starter at shooting guard.   Todd still recovering from his surgery and JJJ still trying to catch up.   2.   Chris starts at center and even with the weight loss, Buzz is not happy with DG's defense.  And his defense will dictate his minutes.

While Jake may start next week, I would be very surprised if that lasts.

I agree that Jake probably won't be starting all year.

I don't know what "catching up" means, but I hope JJJ is not that far behind Jake.  Per what is stated, JJJ is third in line at SG at moment.  Bit surprising, but JJJ is a frosh who hopefully has a very fast learning curve.

Man is Hunt terrible.  Devonte Burton & Drexel a finalist for Pierce is all I need to know about the validity of this info.   He has never once written anything about MU that was not filled with misinformation.   Everybody here knows infinitely more than Hunt about MU.   Please get your info elsewhere.   Just because Buzz said 3 weeks ago that Todd or Jajuan had not YET earned a starting spot, doesn't mean Jake will be starting.

bilsu

Buzz is going to start someone you do not expect. Jake could start the whole year and play only 3 minutes a game.

Buzz said at the BBQ that Jake will get minutes this year.  Buzz rewards seniors.

I don't like this mantra. It's counterintuitive to winning.

I dont trust a word Hunt writes. I trust Buzz and what he does but if Jake starts I honestly have no clue the process behing his thinking.

Playing seniors simply avoids the costly freshman mistakes -which is why I've had Jake starting all along.

It's too late now.  And Buzz did not block his transfer in the first place.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I know-- however People on scoop don't get paid to do what they do.

From what I've read people on here don't know the difference between then and than---and if you don't, just claim grammar police to get you outta a bad situation.

raul

If Jake starts good for him. But the fact is there are more talented players close behind that want to play at his spot. If Jake can get comfortable and hit his outside shots then he will see plenty of playing time and be mega valuable to the team. hope that's the case.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Jake has talent. He's a great shooter. Once he gets his confidence, he will have a role on the team.

Buzz doesn't hand out minutes, you have to earn them. Sounds like a cliche but he has always done odd things with his starting line ups. With the OOC cupcakes, Jake will get his minutes.  Because of size and athletic limitations, many of the cupcakes play zone.  Starting Jake will help soften the zone and give his senior a chance for hard earned minutes, while sending many a message, even to Gardner about his defense.  Plus, Jake tears it up in practice, but has struggled off the bench...maybe this is a better way to get him off the blocks.

With these comments, it sure sounds like Dee, Jake, Juan, Jamil and Chris will start against Southern.  I would say Taylor, but I don't think he is 100% starter ready yet with the knee, but he sure looks close. Jamil will tear it up this year in a multi-dimensional role.

Here is the process...he is going to start the players who most understand what Buzz wants on both ends of the floor.  If Mayo is still recovering, and since JJJ is a freshman who may not fully understand what Buzz wants, starting Jake is fine.

But I have never put much thought into who starts.  It is who ends up with the most minutes.

I don't think Jake is a high level D1 player so I would be extremely surprised if he logs big minutes.  I hope he proves me wrong.

In fact, Jake had already been let out of his scholarship.

bilsu

The starting lineup does not mean much. There is probably a 100% chance that Otule starts at center and Derrick starts at point. The rest is a crapshoot. There is probably a 99% chance that Jamil starts, but it may be at the 3 or the 4. I would of said 100%, but Buzz did not start him last year. Is the team better with Gardner at 4 and Jamil at 3 or with Jamil at 4 and Juan at 3. My gut says that even though he is not happy with Gardner's defense he will give Gardner a chance to start at least to the Ohio St. game. I think until we lose it will be the 4 seniors and Derrick.

I don't follow this stuff as closely as many on here, but wasn't Jake's scholly only for the year anyway?  Hard to be let out of something that is no longer yours.

If defense is the Buzz mantra to starting, how does one explain Jake and Juan starting? Neither are very good defenders.

While I agree that Juan isn't a good on ball defender, he is a good rebounder and is the most active player on the team, which allows him opportunities to disrupt the opposing team's offense.  He also seems to be the most vocal player on the team most of the time and plays the quarterback of the defense sometimes.
