TAMU, Knower of Ball

This quote made me laugh:

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

I don't know why we pay any attention to that school. Except for the one time of year we embarrass them, they are completely irrelevant. That is until Bo steals Christmas.

Huh, those dudes on the buckyville site are pretty funny :)

Also, they're spot on. We have been committing to MU on that ken porn site thing ;p

The only part of the kenpom poll that is meaningful is it shows the percentage of fanbases that care to be educated about the more detailed numbers of the game. Considering we don't have football to spend money on, it seems natural that a basketball-only fanbase would be more dedicated to this sport. Look at the top 25...or rather 33, since there's a huge tie. Many of the schools are known specifically for basketball. MSU, UNC, Syracuse, Maryland. In addition, a huge block of Big East teams, Marquette, Georgetown, Villanova, Butler, Xavier, DePaul. Then you have all the basketball-only schools, like VCU, Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, VCU, Duke, Kentucky, and Vandy.

Because if your football doesn't matter, you're basketball-only.

If you recall from statistics the football and basketball fan demographics are not mutually exclusive. If you Venn diagram it the overlap of the two populations is likely significant.

The statistics class I took never talked about football and basketball fan overlap. But I'm pretty sure there is a sizable portion of most school fanbases that cheer for the school regardless of sport.

That's a stretch. Clicking on a team to "commit" may be indicative of a certain type of person. Some people won't click on any - "this has no purpose, dumb" - they may think.

The only meaning it's probably safe to derive from this is... "there are some Marquette fans that subscribe to kenpom.com"

At any rate, I have heavy anecdotal evidence that MU's popularity and brand value has grown considerably over the past several years. It's absolutely noticeable throughout the country.

I agree with this.

So by the same reasoning, not many Kentucky fans have Internet access?

That's not the same reasoning.

It was a hillbilly joke.

So let me bite:  by the same reasoning, not as many Kentucky fans subscribe to kenpom.com.

Do you believe that?

Indeed, a lame stat.

If you'd like to increase the lame stat and are a kenpom subscriber .. go here:
http://kenpom.com/team.php?team=Marquette

Then at the very bottom, it says "commit to this team" .. click.
