lmao.  If I had a choice between Stanford and MU, it wouldn't even be close.

Don't get me wrong, but playing out in the beautiful weather, at a top flight school... and California girls everywhere?

No question I'd be at Stanford.

And I LOVE Marquette.

Mike Shaw pretty much did this after his MU visit

Someone said he looked "disinterested" at a game (Midnight Madness?) during his visit, Good thing. He's played like he's disinterested ever since.

I have a good feeling about this recruit. Good size, good attitude, and is on the upswing at the right time. I could see him getting solid playing time as a freshman (probably comes off the bench for McKay) and then possibly starting as a sophomore.

Come on Blammers, we got prestige, talent, and playing time. What's not to love? Sign that dotted line!
Taylor would probably play center over McKay.

McKay's got two inches on Taylor. Taylor is bigger but I would rather have height than girth at the 5.

Taylor is reported to have grown over the summer.

According to team roster on GOMARQUETTE

McKay is 6-8 210
Taylor is 6-7   235
Gardner is 6-8 290
Taylor reportedly has grown to 6-9. I am not sure about that, but last summer in pro am both Taylor and Gardner according to my eyesight were the same height.
This year's pro am according to my eyesight there is no question that McKay is taller than Gardner.

I suspect that Gardner's height is somewhat over stated.

Academics school first = Stanford

Choices, choices........Nice option for the young fella.

This.

Sadly, Stanford basketball hasn't been the same since Montgomery left.
Dawkins, a great asst at Duke, is struggling to put out a competitive team despite the academic allure, great weather, fervent fan base, and deep alum pockets.

It doesn't look good for him because Amaker is working wonders at Harvard (just as hard to get into, no BKB schollies) and the losing is taking a toll.

And Taylor's is understated.

Both with good reason I suspect.

The "no athletic scholarships" for Ivy League schools is as overrated as can possibly be. Every student that attends an Ivy League school has a tuition based on his/her family's income. They make it so that everyone who is accepted can pay for their education. For sports that have only partial scholarships (men's volleyball, for example), this becomes even more attractive to student athletes than receiving partial scholarships to other schools. Unless the family's income is some incredibly high number (I believe I heard $250,000), you're not going to pay a substantial amount for tuition at an Ivy League school. And if you do have to pay that substantial amount, it means your family isn't hurting for money, so you should have no trouble finding a way to pay for it.

What I know is, when I've seen the two next to each other, McKay looks about two inches taller. It's possible Steve grew some.

I'm really high on McKay. Maybe I'm too hyped because of our past success with JUCOs, but I think he will be our best newcomer next year. I think he starts before too long.

Where do you measure? Do you measure by the shoulders as some do or by the top of the head?

If a guy has a flat head or slouching shoulders of tall shaped head and high shoulders as does Jameel McKay then he might seem taller so height is crazy like that.

Then you have the in shoes and out of shoes aspect as well.
To me it is posture too.

Jamil looks like the tallest guy on the team that way so IDK As a rule..I go by how tall they play not by actual height.

and i'm not sure i choose stanford if i want to cash a check playing professional basketball.  certainly not questioning any kid who realizes he can use basketball to get a stanford education, but also not questioning a kid who feels he needs to play for a coach that will best develop his talents.

I look at the top of their head when they are next to each other. I suppose it is possible that Gardner slouches somewhat instead of standing tall all the time, thus making him look shorter than he is.

My guess is that McKay will look good in spots, but will also be inconsistent as he learns to play at the D1 level. That's how I would describe Jae and DJO's first year. Sometimes they looked great... sometimes they looked pretty average (or worse).

He'll get a chance to contribute... especially if he can play defense. Buzz loves to mix and match on defense when guys are versatile.

I don't think we'll see him start... but maybe I'm just too high on the returning players.

I think you are right as I think Jamil Wilson is more comfortable at the 2, likes playing against average athletics vs. 3's whom are much more athletic.  I can see Buzz throwing a zone
D with Otule, Gardner and McKay, with Mayo and Duane and you are really long.  That front lines reminds me of Bo, Whitehead and Toone.

BC I like Otule Gardner and McKay, CO is one of the finest young men you could ever meet...but to say they remind you of Bo, Whitehead and Toone is a little off, unless you are looking at height only.  I would walk into any alley with those three cats and not worry once who was waiting for us.  Whitehead and Toone especially had a nasty disposition on the court and sometimes off the court too.

I read an article about how Amaker is getting players in like Zena Edowamsam that may not be on scholarship but won't pay a dime at Harvard. For the moment, the rest of the Ivy doesn't stand a chance.
