In reading about Jay Bilas' twitter rage on NCAA profiting on players at the NCAA website, I discovered the NCAA still thinks the Big East is comprised of the same old teams. Yet they have the new AAC conference up and running on their site too. lame. go to the main page and seach by conference.

If you haven't seen the Bilas rampage, it's worth a look here:

I know Manziel should pay back the money and will have to sit because he broke a rule.  But I really do think at some point they need to take a look at what they are doing and why.

And how can the NCAA be so stupid?

And how can the NCAA be so stupid?

Because the NCAA paid somebody to develop and manage a web-based store for them. Those people wanted to do make a quality product, one that successfully directs customers to the things that those customers want to purchase. The developers, rightly, assumed that people search by player, so they installed search logic that would direct those customers to the things they wanted.

Unfortunate timing in light of the O'Bannon lawsuit and general NCAA hating going on? Yes.

Stupid? I'd say the opposite. I don't want to have to search "Marquette 3" to find a Wade jersey.

I agree it is a smart idea from a merchandising perspective.

But from a legal perspective, especially in the light of the O'Bannon trial, it is really stupid.  And then there is the hypocrisy of it all.

What goes on under the hood of a website is so far into the realm of magic for the NCAA that they probably never knew or could have even understood what was happening. If anyone has made an oversight it's the NCAA's law firm for not checking into it themselves.

The Lens

To me the biggest sign of NCAA ineptness is that one of the NCAA's biggest partners (ESPN) is "allowing" their top talent constantly take shots at it.  This would NEVER happen with the NFL (or the NBA).  Imagine having Jon Gruden spend his days pointing out hypocrisy of concussions or PEDs.

Now I know that technically ESPN really only contracts on hoops with conferences but it does contract with the NCAA on olympic championships and I would assume for some access to the Final Four etc.

I think it's awesome in light of both the O'Bannon suit and the other big suit (forgot the name...), the NCAA broke ties with EA Sports for using player likenesses. The NCAA has some big, BIG payouts coming.
