A multi-year deal too?  Wow, congrats to Dwight!

It really is amazing. If Vander makes it (or Jamil, though he was sitting out technically) that team could've put together a starting five of all NBA players. Makes the Sweet 16 look even a tad disappointing

Not a contract expert, but I presume this means he gets some guaranteed money, but not necessarily a roster spot.  He could be sent to NBDL, just as DJO last year.  Don't know how these contracts work.

Hard work by Dwight paid off for him and MU should be proud also.

Haha, not what I meant. But when you start looking back years later on the teams that go deep in the tourney, they usually have 2, 3 or more NBA-calibur players. We had 4/5! Though Van was a frosh.

Add  him to the list of MU alums that have had NBA contracts (technically NBA players!)

Actually it's on a NBA roster at the start of a season when you are considered a NBA player per the NBA...but don't tell Lenny.   ;)

Congrats to Dwight, hopefully he can be on one of those rosters and earn a paycheck.

Shhhh.....all depends who the HC is to bring this up.   :D   And believe me, it would have been brought up in spades.

He didn't qualify because of a f*ck up at his high school.  My recollection was that he was fully qualified with regards to ACT, but didn't take the correct number of core classes for NCAA eligibility because of poor counselling.
Yep.  He was going to go to Bradley, but his academic counselor at Bay View screwed up.

If Crean could do that with 4 JUCOs I'd agree with your point ;D. I get it, he's been a little unfairly criticized (emphasis on a little).

None of these guys were not that highly ranked, and the ones that were haven't made the NBA yet. I think it speaks more to Buzz's ability to develop players.

This is great news.  Congrats to Dwight.

Fortunately my company is HQ'd in Toronto so I will definitely catch a Raptors game next time I am there to see Buycks and Novak.

Love to see hard work and dedication result in attainment of a goal. It is fantastic. It really is easy to root for those former Marquette players who are grinding it out while chasing their dreams.

Good on ya, Dwight.

Your logic:

1. Someone praised Buzz
2. Must compare Buzz to Crean, in a snarky way if possible and use a smiley face.

What the hell, man.

Pretty sad. Agreed.

It wasn't "sudden talent."  It was hard work...and maybe a little maturity.

Why is Dom James not entering the NBA discussion?

Because he's 5'11" and will turn 27 before the season starts...among other things.

He can't shoot.  His free throw pct was attrocious.

Congratulations to Dwight. I cannot believe he got an NBA contract after how he was at MU.  I never saw this coming. I'm super happy for him and I wish him the best.  Add him to the list of Marquette NBA players.

This. 5'11" guards who are really bad shooters don't play in the NBA.

This is probably right.

That said, I have always felt that D. James could have taken on a Jameer Nelson or Nate Robinson type role, if even not to the extent that the aforementioned found success. I am sure I am undervaluing Nelson and Robinson's respective college careers, since I am too lazy to look up stats, but I thought with NBA guidance and a chance, DJ had the raw physical talents to succeed.

I should note that I have never been offered a job as a NBA scout, GM or talent evaluator and there is probably a very good reason for that.

Would love to see DJ get at least a minute on the NBA books, but that ship has likely sailed.
