TAMU, Knower of Ball

I remember that clearly.  Thought it was as stupid as this thread.

Didn't your mother ever teach you that two douchey threads don't make a good one?

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

There's a difference between tooting your own horn and reveling in the errors of others.  If those were the two choices I had in picking friends, I'd take pride over schadenfreude every day of the week.

I agree. Pride is sometimes warranted. Schadenfreude, never.

If that was the case, I think most of us would be a little more tolerant.... but that's not the case here.  When has Brew ever "enjoyed" pointing out the wrongs?

Oh come on. You serious here? He's set himself for something like this for a while. I'm surprised there aren't more people calling him out. That thread was the paramount of insufferable.

I'm ok with it.

Some people LOVE to pontificate and predict.

Being held accountable for what you write is good.

If I say something stupid, feel free to call me out months/years later.

EDIT:

Just to add to this, we all hold 19 yr old kids accountable for split second decisions they make on a basketball court. I think it's more than ok for chubby, middle aged dudes to be held accountable for what they type with their keyboards.

Correct.

If you are going to gloat about being correct on one prediction, then you should be ready to take heat for being wrong on another.  We have all made stupid comments and predictions, the difference is not everyone makes a big deal out of it when they are correct.

And yes Benny B, go back and check, Brew did call out many people about their predictions, going so far as spending what had to be a lot of time going back and quoting each one.

Having said all that, Brew is one of the best posters on here and it is kind of douchey to call him out in this fashion.

What I thought you might be referring to is called "debate"... using facts, data, stats, expert opinion and analysis in presenting an adversarial position. What this thread represents, however, is the douchiness of calling someone out after the fact, not for the benefit of understanding why an error was/wasn't made, but seemingly for the sole purpose of the self-gratification derived from pointing out that an error was made.

Again... I'm not saying that Brew has never disagreed with anyone, I'm simply saying that I don't recall any incident where he "enjoyed" pointing out an error... but then I read this:

Quote from: mu_hilltopper on June 28, 2013, 10:20:59 AM
Indeed.  Brew created the mother of all "I told you so" threads when his BE prediction came true, where he called out every single person who ever "doubted" him.

http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=37122.msg469619

I'm going to go ahead and toss out a mea culpa here, as while I recall the thread, it was a TLDNR for me at the time.  But now, having read it, on the surface I can certainly appreciate why some see only the slant of "ha ha, you were wrong, I was right," but as I look at the genesis of the topic, I see an incident where Brew wasn't so much calling people out for disagreeing with him as he was bringing to light the fact that we have waaaaaayyyyyy too many chicken littles on Scoop.

I'm all for a good ex-post debate about the analysis that supports whether a prediction was likely to be correct or incorrect, and I don't care for people who simply point out the mistakes of others strictly for their own enjoyment.  But I absolutely HATE (despise, really) the chicken little mentality that plagues so many amongst the MU fan base.  Therefore, I'm going to recuse myself from further contribution to the thread at hand because irrespective of the facts, my bias regarding the one piece of evidence presented is seriously hampering my objectivity on the matter.

Love this thread. If you can't call someone out on a message board, what's the point?

brewcity77

I've been incredibly busy between work and another online side project this summer, but I was definitely wrong on this one. I felt confident Blue would do what he needed to do to get picked, and looking at a lot of the other guys in the field felt he was better than quite a few that were projected as first rounders. Guys like BJ Young, Michael Snaer, and CJ Leslie all looked like worse prospect to me than Blue. I guess at least they didn't get drafted either.

Also, I expected either a thread or comments. I'm not offended and got it wrong on this one. I sincerely hope no one is taking joy at Blue not getting drafted but I'm not going to shy away from taking my lumps when I'm wrong.

As far as deserving this, I probably have worse than this coming to me. But I would always rather be wrong because I'm overly optimistic about our players and team than be wrong because I have no hope or faith in the guys that are out there representing us. Here's hoping Van can find his way into the league despite going undrafted.

Goose

I agree, Victor. It goes both ways. Hopefully Brew will be back to defend himself. I must admit that I am surprised Blue was not drafted and will watch closely to see where he is playing next season. Hopefully it works out for him.

Overstating things already are we?

I've had my battles with Brew..and others of course....but we can all respect the above, and should have a similar attitude toward the program we all love greatly.

I place Chicos as Dr. Jeckle, Brew has the mean streak.  ;D

Loved the whole thread. I wonder if we'll get any quotes from Vander. Hope he lands on a roster in the next couple years.

I love ya, Guns, but it won't happen. Bold predictions just aren't in your DNA. The ball has to be at the backstop before your foot leaves first base. All good, though - the "on the other hand" guy is valuable in any discussion.

Don't you just hate it when it takes you 8 hours to download 20 minutes of German midget porn and it turns out to be German dwarf porn?

Totally fair.

I'm not the "LOOK AT ME... BIG PREDICTION!!!" kind of guy.

It's just not how I roll.

If I'm confident something will happen, I'll say something. I don't have any specific or insider information with college basketball, so I don't make a lot of bold proclamations.
