The issue with that thinking is that the APR doesn't care if you're a great student - it simply cares about eligibility and retention. A GPA of 4.0 is the same as 2.7 as far as the APR is concerned.

That said, there will be no issue for I4. Last three years have been 1,000, 1,000 and 975, respectively. Could have massively dumped in 2011-12 (which will be released to the masses next week) and still be just fine.

2012-13? May not be as clean.

This is why I don't care much about the Apr. I understand it's the best we have. But you will never convince me Alabama is that good.

It's a flawed system, but it's what we have. Important because if you aren't in compliance it can lead to scholarship reductions.  See UCONN. 

I'd rather have a good APR than a bad one, but to your point it doesn't factor in difficulty of courses, majors, etc, etc.

OK.. scores are now out. Some thoughts on Marquette's figures are in this post (at the bottom of it).

Based on current circumstances we believe MU may wind up with a single-year score for 2012-13 that is similar to 2011-12′s 941. Such a score would present no issues, leaving Marquette's four-year score at approximately 950.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - With 11 teams earning a perfect 1,000 APR for the 2011-12 academic year, Indiana University's 24 sports comfortably exceed NCAA required standards according to the NCAA's most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate report.

The 11 programs earning a perfect score for 2011-12 were men's basketball, men's cross country, men's golf, men's soccer, men's tennis, men's outdoor track, wrestling, women's golf, women's softball, women's soccer and women's tennis. With perfect multi-year scores of 1,000, the IU men's basketball, men's golf and women's tennis programs are tied for the top score nationally and in the Big Ten Conference. IU's men's basketball program was the only league school with a perfect score.

Thanks for sharing....definitely been a special year in athletics this year.  Soccer national title, baseball in the CWS for first time, basketball Big Ten title, very solid academics across the board.  Fred Glass is a happy camper this year, but those things can change and sour pretty quickly.  Need to enjoy it. 

Likewise, MU solid year with men's hoops success, women's soccer and women's volleyball and men's soccer finally breaking through after some tough years.
