Latest two-round mock draft from NBADraft.net is out. FWIW, no Vander.

Mbakwe!  TC is just churning out NBAers.  Just wait to Otule goes next year, the TC big man pipeline will crank on!

Draft Express no longer has Vander in it mock either.

Is anyone surprised? Even in an off year for the draft it was pretty likely that Vander wasn't going to be listed on many (if any) mock drafts. By most accounts he just doesn't look like a legitimate NBA talent. Hopefully he will prove them wrong like Wes did when he went undrafted.

Why would anyone think Otule will get drafted new year.  He is average at the very most.  I think he should be happy to go to Europe.

A rather pedestrian showing at the combine didn't help.  He proved he was athletic and that's about it.

Frankly, you can say the same thing about his entire MU career.

Not really.  His game grew quite a bit while he was here.

No, I'm not shocked at all. Just passing along the latest info.

Cuz you can't teach 6'11" 250 lbs. of muscle. Another year of injury free play, continued improving stat line and maybe becoming one of the best interior defenders in college ball this year........I would not be shocked to see CO get a shot.

I think Mbakwe has potential

Yes, I guess negative nabobs want to pretend Vander's junior season -- capped by stupendous stuff against St. John's, Davidson, Butler and Miami -- didn't happen. Jeesh.

Having said that, I also don't think Vander is an NBA talent. Would love to be proved wrong because I appreciate what he did for us this season. Our best player, and it wasn't even close.

The Heat need a stopper for Hibbert, Chandler, Duncan, Howard, etc. Joel Anthony is not the answer--Otule is.

Let it freakin' rest. You already have a post that has led to a five-page thread -- an entire thread that should be in teal.

Me either...and a great young man too. High character and devoted to improving. He has size.

The eye might be seen as a handicap to some, but it can be worked around the way the NBA is evolving to more size in the East.

He has some limitations to be sure but plays within himself and can perfect that soft hook with either hand and reads the ball off the glass well.

But the speed of the game and the explosiveness of the guys you lose sight of for even a split second can be a detriment.

Regardless, you never know but I see what any detractors are saying as well.

Vander's form is still slightly off. He does not square up properly and his form and shot is inconsistent because of it. His shot is too flat and hard and in the NBA that leads to fast breaks on the other end.
He has tweener size and no real position. Yes he is a switchable in college, but no real ONE SKILL SET that will set him apart.
Another thing I noticed that I am sure NBA scouts pick up on and that I have always seen is the kid does not breathe right or he gets winded very easily...

If you watch him at times he hyper ventilates all the time and holds his hips like he is exhausted. He works hard as heck so that is not the issue and I do not know if there are respiratory issues but rarely do I see cats who breathe like him. He needs to control that...I am almost positive a scout would look at that.

For a young man with his quickness and explosion I am not sure if they don't think he is right in that regard. I did not post that before due to sensitivity issues perhaps, but watch him....once. I saw him do it again at the Combine.

Maybe its me...I wish the kid well. I do. But in this draft in which he thought it was advantageous to come out due to it being a weak class, that rationale can back fire if you blend in and do not have a skill like shooting that is better then that weak class you presume it do be and you neglected like Marcus Smart and the kid from Louisville to come back to MU and work on your game and shot for one more year.

We will see how much stamina he has to do about 17 workouts and keep his legs and heart right to knock down shots...consistently.

4everwarriors

Dude, if he gets 17 workouts, he'll be drafted.

Sorry Pal--read--I did not start the 5 page thread. Don't read the posts or push the ignore button. There are some guys that think Otule is the real deal, based on what I do not know.

Here's a new thread for you. Who will turn out to be a better pro--Otule or McIlvane. McIlvane could not handle the NBA, even though he did get more than a cup of coffee. If McIlvane could not last, what makes some people think that Otule will? But the Heat do need a stopper--and by some accounts, Otule is the man!

Who are these "some" who think Otule is a legit NBA center?

MooMoo for 1. take a look at the 5 page thread on Otule/Hibbert. You will find some others in there.
