Barnes on the hot seat, it appears:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1647376-how-close-is-the-end-of-the-rick-barnes-era-at-texas?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=college-basketball

Key excerpts: "Since the Longhorns finished their 16-18 season, they have had three players transfer and another, Myck Kabongo, declare for the NBA draft. That's the program's three leading scorers and a rotation big man. Gone. . . . .

"Barnes had a laundry list of excuses he could give for only the second losing season in his career. Everyone should get a mulligan.

But next season will count, and it's not looking promising."

What he needs is to have a big recruiting season this year, but that is very hard to do when the recruits do not know if you are going to be still there.

damuts222

It is only a matter of time until Barnes is gone.  I have seen other articles implying that Barnes has gotten lazy on the recruiting trail.  If Buzz is offered the position it will be interesting.

Aaron Durley to Texas?

I haven't been this nervous since I was convinced KO would leave for Arizona except when I thought TC would leave for MSU and that time I thought Deane-o would leave for Potsdam State.

I am fairly new so I'd like to know why so many cares about what goes on at Texas? What is the MU-Texas connection?

The MUSCOOP thought process is this.

1.Buzz would only leave for an elite program.
   a. Marquette is not elite.
   b. Texas is elite.
2. Buzz is from Texas, and normally people from Texas love Texas.
3. It would take a pile of money to land Buzz.
     a. Texas has a big pile of money.
4. Buzz is a hot name in coaching.
   a. Texas will want a hot name, and not some retread.
5. If RIck Barnes is out, Buzz would obviously would run all the way to Austin to take his place.

That's how we do things around here.

Larry Williams is clearly behind Barnes future removal.

In Deane-o's defense, when Potsdam State knocks at your door, you listen.

Some people assume that Buzz would jump to Texas simply because he's from that state.

I happen to believe that he doesn't just want to be the guy who keeps people busy between football and spring football.

It's Potsdam, it's Potsdam!

This is one of the reasons why I think the 2014 recruiting class is so important. I think the better the class Buzz brings in the more likely he stays. The harder he finds it to recruit for the new conference the more likely he is to leave.

Perfectly stated, and honestly, pretty rational.

The weird/irrational stuff comes when you get down into the details of "elite", or being the biggest program on campus, etc. etc.

So, is Buzz happy?   How  has he bonded with his team?   What promises has he made to his recruits about his long-term presence?   To Buzz, how much $ is enough?   Does he really miss Texas?     IMO, Texas is the big enchilada.   If he turns down the horns, then he may be a lifer at MU, unless IU decides it needs to trade up.  ;D      Because there aren't that many elite jobs and many of those replacement coaches are going to come from some sort of 'family'.  (UNC, Duke, etc)

IU would want someone that has proven to go to the Final Four.   ;)

Weird, since they went after Tony Bennett and Sean Miller before settling for you-know-who.

Yep, I agree.  If Buzz feels he can get it done here he'll stay.  If not, he may look for greener pastures.

Yeah, well, so did we.

After Buzz takes us to the Final Four, then II,II comes calling?

My thoughts too.

Hope they're happy in Bloomington with last season's preseason #1 team and the consensus choice to win the National Championship. Guess two potential lottery picks isn't enough when you have a used car salesman coachin' against a zone defense. Lots of sizzle bein' sold in Indiana. Hope they're happy with their choice, I know I am.

Eh ... Marquette didn't exactly do a fantastic job solving the Syracuse zone in the tournament either, as I recall.
